Katrina Mendez Abolnik Set to Vault in Pittsburgh at NCAA Regional

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Bowling Green State University gymnast Katrina Mendez Abolnik is set to participate as an individual in the vault at the 2023 NCAA Gymnastics Regionals. She will compete on Friday, March 31 at the Pittsburgh Regional, which will be held at the Petersen Events Center on the campus of Pittsburgh University. She will be part of session one, which begins at 2 p.m.

NCAA REGIONAL HISTORY
• Mendez Abolnik is going to be the first Falcon that will compete at an NCAA Regional as an individual since Jovannah East and Lauren DeMeno in 2019. East competed in the all-around while DeMeno competed on vault.
• Mendez Abolnik marks the 42nd individual performance by a Falcon all-time in an NCAA Regional.
HOW TO ADVANCE
• In order for Mendez Abolnik to advance to the NCAA National competition in Fort Worth (April 13-15), she needs to secure the highest vault score in Pittsburgh of all competitors and advancing all-arounders not part of advancing teams.
2023 SEASON
• Mendez Abolnik's PR of 9.900 on vault happened twice this season and is tied for No. 7 all-time at BGSU in the event.
• She set the PR at Michigan State tri-meet with LIU and she equaled it again a week later at Eastern Michigan.
• Most recently, Mendez Abolnik tallied a 9.825 on vault at the MAC Championship which placed her eighth. She has tallied a 9.80 or higher in six-straight meets.
