DJ Newman Named MAC Pitcher Of The Week

Newman Tallied 11 Strikeouts In Seven Shutout Innings Friday
CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference announced the MAC Players and Pitcher of the Week Monday afternoon (Feb. 26). Of those named, DJ Newman was named MAC Pitcher of the Week. The award is the first weekly award for Newman this season and the second of his BGSU career after being named MAC Pitcher of the Week on May 22, 2023.
In a weekend where Memphis tallied 28 runs, DJ Newman kept them scoreless over seven innings in his start on Friday (Feb. 23). Getting the nod on the mound in the series opener, Newman gave up just two hits and one walk to the Tigers while striking out a career-high 11 and not allowing a run. Newman's 11 strikeouts are tied for the most by a MAC pitcher this season and his seven innings are tied for second. He picked up the win, his first of the season and BGSU's first over Memphis in program history.

The Falcons will return to the state of Tennessee next weekend to take on the nationally ranked Tennessee Volunteers as the final weekend series before MAC play begins.
