Bowling Green, Xavier To Clash In Three-Game Series Beginning Thursday

Falcons Enter Series With Six-Game Winning Streak
CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball team will return to the road this weekend against the Xavier Musketeers. The Falcons and Musketeers will begin the series on Thursday (March 28) with a 3 p.m. first pitch. The series will continue on Friday (March 29) at 2 p.m. and conclude Saturday (March 30) with a 1 p.m. start. The Falcons enter the series having won six straight games, claiming a pair of MAC sweeps. It marks the longest winning streak for BGSU since 2021. The last time Bowling Green won seven straight was during the 2010 season when they won 11 consecutive games.

Scouting Xavier
The series against BGSU will mark the final non-conference series for Xavier before beginning play within the Big East next weekend. The Musketeers enter with a 12-13 record on the season, including being 5-3 when playing at home. Xavier has picked up notable wins over Louisville (9-1, Feb. 21), Cincinnati (11-9, Feb. 27) and LSU (2-1, March 10). They've also played a three-game series against Clemson and a midweek against Tennessee.

The Falcons are currently one of the highest-scoring teams in college baseball, averaging 10.2 runs per game. The mark makes BGSU the sixth highest-scoring team in the country, led by Wofford's 11.6. A large chunk of BGSU's run production has come from triples and home runs. So far this season, Bowling Green has blasted 32 home runs, averaging 1.68 per game. That mark is currently 10th in the nation and leads the Mid-American Conference. As for triples, BGSU has nine this year, which is tied for 22nd in the nation. This has turned in a .502 slugging percentage for the Falcons, 44th in the country and first in the MAC.
Two-Way DJ
DJ Newman has continued to shine as a two-way player for the Falcons in his sophomore campaign. At the plate, Newman has been one of the most dangerous hitters in the MAC, ranking inside the top five in batting average, runs scored and slugging percentage while leading the conference in triples and seventh in home runs. As for on the mound among qualified pitchers, Newman is third in the MAC for ERA, seventh in strikeouts, including third in strikeouts looking and tied for fourth in wins.
