Falcons Fall To Golden Flashes Friday In Final Frame

Seidel Doubles, Logs Two Hits In Return To Lineup
KENT, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball team went down to the wire with the Kent State Golden Flashes Friday (April 26) in the first game of the weekend series. The two teams went back-and-forth throughout. Kent State struck first, but BGSU tied it at 1-1 before moving ahead 3-1 in the top of the third. KSU fought back with one in the third and two in the fourth to swing the score back to them, 4-3 through four innings. A run for Bowling Green in the fifth tied it with another in the seventh claiming a 5-4 lead. However, Kent State tied it in the eighth and walked it off in the ninth for a 6-5 final.

The Falcons and Golden Flashes will continue their series on Saturday (April 27) with a 3 p.m. first pitch before concluding the series on Sunday (April 28) at 1 p.m. Bowling Green will return home for five games next week, including two midweeks contests.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Kent State scored in the bottom of the first for the first run of the game. A hit-and-run on a high chopper to the left side of the infield resulted in an RBI-single for a 1-0 score.
- The Falcons quickly responded with Jack Krause leading off the top of the second with a towering solo home run to right, tying the game at 1-1.
- In the third inning, Nathan Archer hit a leadoff double before Garrett Wright was hit by a pitch. DJ Newman sent a ball up the middle that made it to the outfield, scoring Archer for the first run. Tyler Ross followed with a double, bringing in Wright, for a 3-1 score.
- An RBI-double in the bottom of the third cut into the lead for Kent State, down to 3-2. The Falcons ended the inning with back-to-back outs at home. Jack Krause started the relay for the first from right before Caden Parker followed in left to end the inning.
- Kent State added a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth to move in front 4-3.
- The BGSU answer came quickly again. Wright began the inning by being hit by a pitch for the second time in the game. A single from Newman put two on with a fly out moving Wright to third. Krause put a ball in play that brought home Wright for a 4-4 tie.
- In the seventh, Archer began the inning with a walk followed by a Wright single. A double steal moved both runners up, setting up a sacrifice fly by Ross to score Archer and reclaim the lead for BGSU, 5-4.
- A two-out rally in the eighth for Kent State tied the game at 5-5.
- In the ninth, Kent State walked it off with a base knock to left field for the 6-5 final.

- After being absent from the lineup for a few games, Sam Seidel wasted no time getting back to it. In his first at-bat, Seidel hit a double to left center. The knock pushed his season on-base streak to 28 with it extending to 39 games going back to last season.
- With a home run in the second inning, Jack Krause extended his on-base streak to 25 games, the second-longest streak on the team.
- DJ Newman singled in the fifth inning to push his team-leading hitting streak to 12 games.
- Tyler Ross registered an RBI double for the Falcons in the third inning to continue his hitting streak, now at eight games the second-longest active streak on the team.
- Leighton Banjoff drew another walk in the game. He's now recorded a walk in 12 consecutive games for the Falcons.
- Nathan Archer ripped a double to the right center gap in the third inning to push his on-base streak to seven games for BGSU.
- Garrett Wright extended his on-base streak to seven games for the Falcons with a single up the middle in the second at-bat of the game and the first BGSU hit of the day.
