BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – On Wednesday, Sep. 24, at BGSU hockey's annual season ticket holder event, head coach Dennis Williams announced that junior defenseman Gustav Stjernberg and senior forward Jaden Grant will serve as the team's assistant captains for the 2025-26 season.
On a roster filled with young talent, coach Williams has chosen an experienced leadership duo that exemplifies character, consistency, and reliability to join captain Dalton Norris.
Hailing from Enebyberg, Sweden, Stjernberg has been a rock-solid defenseman for the Falcons in his first two seasons. In 2024-25, he appeared in 30 games and posted four goals and 12 assists for 16 points. He also led the team in blocked shots with 42. In his freshman season, he played in 31 games, tallying four goals and seven assists for 11 points. Along with his impressive offensive numbers, he posted another 41 blocked shots, making him a formidable force at both ends of the ice. Coming into his junior season, the 6-foot 4 blue liner is poised to continue his outstanding career in the Orange and Brown.
"If there was ever a time where, you get out there and find yourself in a tough spot, you're definitely going to want this guy in your corner. He leaves everything on the ice, he's a heart and soul player who plays with a ton of passion and I couldn't be happier to name Gustav Stjernberg assistant captain." Coach Williams said regarding Stjernberg.
Senior Jaden Grant will join Stjernberg in wearing the "A" for the Falcons this season. The White Lake, Mich. native has amassed 11 goals and 24 assists in his first three seasons. Since his debut season in 2022-23, Grant has only missed two games for the Falcons and has posted stellar numbers in the faceoff circle, winnings over 500 draws in his career. Heading into his final season, the 6-foot 2 center will look to continue his run of consistent, hard-nosed hockey.
"I had an opportunity to really get to know him throughout the year, and his care and passion for his teammates. This player, to me, really resembles what it is to be a Bowling Green hockey player, both on and off the ice, in the community and in the classroom. I couldn't be happier to announce Jaden Grant as assistant captain." Coach Williams said about Grant.
Coach Williams announcement comes just one week before the Falcons will open up their season with a home exhibition matchup against Robert Morris. Puck drop on Oct. 4 is slated for 6:07 pm.
