BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) has announced its list of weekly award winners for competition through Jan. 11, and Bowling Green freshman defenseman Ty Higgins has been named CCHA Rookie of the Week following his standout performances in BGSU's conference sweep of Ferris State.
Higgins, a native of Stratford, Ontario, played a key role in Bowling Green's 2–0 weekend, leading the Falcons with four assists from the blue line. He opened the series by assisting on the game-winning goal in Friday night's victory, helping BGSU secure an early edge in the two-game set.
The freshman followed that performance with a career-high three assists in Saturday's series finale, factoring in on each of Bowling Green's final three goals. Higgins assisted on goals three, four and five as the Falcons pulled away, showcasing poise, vision and offensive instincts well beyond his experience level.
Through just four career games, Higgins has already recorded six assists, quickly establishing himself as a reliable playmaker on the back end while contributing to the Falcons' transition game and offensive production.
Bowling Green returns to Slater Family Ice Arena this weekend as Lake Superior State visits for a pair of CCHA contests. Puck drop is set for 7:07 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday night.
