Sam Seidel Earns MAC Scholar-Athlete Of The Week Honor

Seidel Posted .625 Batting Average, Four Stolen Bases In Opening Weekend
CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference announced the MAC Scholar-Athletes of the Week Wednesday afternoon (Feb. 18). Of those named, Bowling Green's Sam Seidel was named the MAC Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week. Seidel's honor marks the fifth time this year the award has been presented to a BGSU student-athlete. He joins volleyball's Lauryn Hovey (Sept. 11), women's soccer's Emma Stransky (Sept. 17) and men's basketball's Javontae Campbell (Nov. 12, Dec. 11). The award is the first weekly MAC award of Seidel's BGSU career.
Seidel was nearly unstoppable at the plate against Top 5 Georgia Tech during the opening weekend. In 13 plate appearances, Seidel reached base 10 times with five hits and five walks. He began the series and the season with a 2-for-3 day including a double, a home run, two runs scored and two RBI. He also drew two walks and stole two bases in the game. He followed it up in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader with another two-hit game as well as a double, two more RBI and two stolen bases. He capped off the game with three walks, reaching base five times. He concluded his weekend with another hit in the series finale, giving him at least one hit in each of the three games.

The Falcons will continue their season on the road this weekend with a three-game series at Western Carolina. As of now the series is set for a 4 p.m. first pitch on Friday (Feb. 20), a 2 p.m. start on Saturday (Feb. 21) and a 1 p.m. start Sunday (Feb. 22).
