Bowling Green Prepares for Two-Day Push at MAC Championships
February 26, 2026 | Women's Track and Field
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Championship season has arrived for Bowling Green, as the Falcons open competition at the MAC Indoor Championships on Friday, Feb. 27, inside the Indoor Athletic Complex. Field events are set to begin at 10 a.m., with running events following at 1:20 p.m.
Bowling Green enters the weekend in a strong position, boasting top MAC marks in three events and establishing itself as one of the most balanced teams in the conference. With scoring threats across sprints, distance and field events, the Falcons look to translate regular-season momentum into podium finishes.
Sophomore Rachael Hoover has been at the forefront of that surge. Over the past month, she reset two program records: first clocking a 4:40.35 mile at the Meyo Invitational, then a 2:07.03 in the 800m at the GVSU Big Meet. Both times lead the MAC entering the championship meet, positioning Hoover as a favorite in multiple distance events.
In the field, Bianca Staples made her statement at the Doug Raymond Invitational, soaring 12.81m in the triple jump. The mark not only leads the conference, but also ranks second in school history.
The Falcons' depth extends beyond those their conference leaders. Bowling Green owns top five MAC marks in 10 events, seven of those ranking among the top three.
On the track, Kiersten Franklin provides a major spark in the sprints. Her 7.47 in the 60m ranks fourth in the conference, while her 24.21 in the 200 meters sits second. Morgan Patterson's 8.46 in the 60m hurdles, recorded in December, has her tied for fourth and in position to contend for a finals berth.
The middle-distance and distance group adds another layer of scoring potential. Kylee Cubbison ranks third in both the mile (4:42.00) and 3000m (9:17.95), while Reese Reaman sits just over a second behind Hoover in the 800m to claim the No. 2 spot on the MAC performance list. That one-two presence in the 800 could provide a critical points boost.
Bowling Green's relays will also play a critical role. The distance medley relay enters the weekend ranked second in the conference with a time of 11:30.57, and the 4x400 relay sits fourth. Both squads will be aiming for podium finishes to cap each day.
In the field events, additional high-end scoring opportunities await. Kiera Bonds' 5.99m long jump at the Doug Raymond Invitational ranks second in the MAC, just four centimeters shy of the conference lead. In the shot put, Sierra Brinson's 14.94m toss at the Silverston Invitational also places her second.
With proven front-runners and depth across event groups, Bowling Green will look to stay consistent and put itself in position for a strong finish as the two-day championship unfolds.
