March 28, 2026 | Softball
In the first game of the doubleheader, the Bulls posted a 7-4 victory at Meserve Field.
Hunt had four hits and six RBI on the day, with two hits in each game. Her game-two exploits included a three-run homer and a two-run single.
Junior Peyton Steffes also had a pair of two-hit games for the Falcons (15-14, 3-6 Mid-American Conference), while classmates Cameron Kaufman and Taylor Behrendt reached base seven and five times, respectively.
Kaufman had two hits and four walks, and was hit by a pitch in game two. Behrendt had three hits and two free passes, and that duo had two stolen bases apiece.
Emily Gorman was 4-for-4 for the Bulls (14-18, 5-4 MAC) in the opener, while Nicole Allen had two hits in each end of the twinbill.
Sophomore Morgan Beckham picked up the complete-game win in the nightcap, allowing just one run and five hits. She walked run batter and struck out three.
NOTE OF THE DAY
• Entering the weekend, the Falcons led the MAC in stolen bases per game (2.19, 15th in the nation), and total stolen bases (59, 25th in the country), while Buffalo was third in the league in both categories (44 steals, 1.52 per game).
• In the three-game series, the Falcons went 11-for-12 in stolen-base attempts, with the Bulls going 1-for-2. BGSU's lone caught stealing on the weekend came in a first-and-third rundown, with a run scoring on the play.
• On the season, the Falcons now has a total of 70 stolen bases, tied for the second-highest total in school history. That is also BGSU's highest single-season total in nearly four decades, since the 1988 club swiped a school-record 104 bases.

BGSU-UB GAME ONE – HOW IT HAPPENED
• Emily Gorman led off the game with a homer to give the Bulls an early lead. Other than that homer, BGSU starter Alyvia Roth faced just one batter over the minimum through three innings, on a second-inning walk and a single by Gorman in the third. Gorman was caught stealing three pitches later.
• The Falcons put two baserunners aboard in each of the first two innings. The opening frame saw BG draw back-to-back walks as Taylor Behrendt and Cameron Kaufman reached with two outs, but UB starter Malena Toth got an inning-ending ground ball to short.
• In the second, Hannah Hunt singled and Hanna Massaro drew a two-out free pass, but a ground ball back to the circle ended that threat. But, BGSU would get on the board in the third.
• Peyton Steffes led off with a single through the right side, and stole second on the very next pitch. A hard-hit single to nearly the same spot by Behrendt put runners at the corners, and Kaufman followed with a single to score Steffes and tie the game.
• Then, with Kaufman at first and Behrendt at third, the Falcons executed a double steal to allow Behrendt to score.
• UB answered right away, however, with a run in the fourth. Back-to-back singles by Nicole Allen and Bella Smithson began the inning, and after Roth retired the next two Bulls, Abbey Nagel's base hit to left allowed Allen to score the tying run.
• And, UB took the lead in the fifth. Ava Thelen led off with a walk, and Gorman greeted BG reliever Madison Wendel by hitting a ball down the left-field line for a double. BG got an out when Wendel fielded Reagen Terwilliger's grounder back to the circle and threw home, resulting in a 1-2-5-3-2 putout of Thelen. But, Allen followed with a base hit up the middle to score a run, and another Bull would cross the plate on Smithson's sacrifice fly.
• In the bottom of the inning, Steffes greeted UB reliever Olivia Russ with a double, but Russ set down the next three Falcons on a strikeout and two popups.
• In the sixth, UB right fielder Allen ran down a drive by Addie Martin near the foul line to take a potential hit away, and that play loomed large when Izzy Ray followed with a two-out triple. Russ recovered to get an inning-ending popup, and the Bulls added to the lead in the seventh.
• UB scored three times to take a 7-2 lead in the final inning. Gorman singled, and Allen reached on a one-out error. Smithson followed with a run-scoring double, and Bri Delaney's single plated a pair of teammates.
• In the bottom of the inning, Hannah Simko led off with a walk, but the next two Falcons were retired. Kaufman, however, drew a walk, and Ashley Chevalier's single up the middle scored Simko. Then, Hannah Hunt singled to left to plate Kaufman. But, with the tying run coming to the plate, Genevieve Longsdorf entered the circle and got the game-ending strikeout.
• Gorman, as mentioned, had four hits for the Bulls, and scored three runs. Allen and Smithson each had two-hit games.
• Both Hunt and Steffes went 2-for-4 for the Falcons, while Kaufman was 1-for-2 with a pair of walks.
• Toth picked up the win, allowing two runs in four innings. Longsdorf retired the only batter she faced to earn the save.Â
BGSU-UB GAME TWO – HOW IT HAPPENED
• Morgan Beckham, who had recorded the final two outs of game one, drew the start for the Falcons in game two and retired the side in order in the top of the first. Then, BGSU took the lead for good in the bottom of the frame.
• Steffes singled to right with one out, and advanced to second when the ball got past the UB outfielder. Behrendt followed with a hard-hit ball that glanced off of third baseman Delaney's glove and caromed past shortstop Thelan into shallow center. Steffes scored on the single, with Behrendt taking second on the throw home. Kaufman singled to put runners on the corners. And, on a double-steal attempt, Kaufman was caught in a lengthy rundown between first and second that allowed Behrendt to score.
• The Bulls loaded the bases in the second, as Smithson led off with a single, Nagel reached on a two-out blooper into shallow left, and Lily Lauck followed by drawing a walk. But, Beckham punched out Thelen to end the threat.
• Each team had just one baserunner over the next two-and-a-half innings, and third baseman Martin ended the top of the fourth with a spectacular diving catch of a Nagel foul pop beyond the BG dugout. Then, Hunt and the Falcons went to work in the bottom of the frame.
• Kaufman was hit by a Longsdorf pitch, and Chevalier's double put runners at second and third and prompted a call to the Bulls' bullpen. Russ entered the circle, and Hunt deposited her fourth pitch on the other side of the fence in left-center for a three-run homer and a 5-0 lead.
• Two more Falcons would reach base, as Martin doubled and Massaro reached on an error, before Toth, the third pitcher of the inning, got the final two outs.
• The hosts extended the lead in the fifth. Behrendt drew a leadoff walk, and Kaufman reached on yet another base on balls. Chevalier's liner was caught in right, with Behrendt advancing to third on the play, and after Kaufman stole second, Hunt singled to score both runners and put the Falcons up by seven.
• UB got on the board in the sixth, on a one-out double by Allen and a two-out two-bagger by Delaney.
• But, BG walked it off in the bottom of the inning. With one out, Simko reached on an infield single, and took second on a Steffes hit. Behrendt walked on four pitches, and Kaufman drew a four-pitch walk as well, scoring Simko and prompting another UB pitching change.
• Emily Watters, the Bulls' fourth hurler of the game, quickly got an 0-2 count on Chevalier, but the BG senior then singled to score Steffes and give BG the walk-off win.
• Behrendt, Chevalier, Hunt and Steffes all had two-hit games, with Behrendt drawing a walk as well. Kaufman reached base in all four plate appearances, as she was 1-for-1 with a pair of walks and a hit-by-pitch.
• Behrendt, Kaufman and Steffes each scored twice, while Hunt had a whopping five RBI.
• Beckham earned the complete-game win to move to 3-1 on the year. She allowed just one run and five hits, walking one and whiffing three, and the sophomore threw 60 of her 86 pitches for strikes.
• Longsdorf, the first of four UB pitchers, took the loss. At the plate, Allen had two hits for the visitors. BGSU had 12 hits to UB's five in the nightcap.
