Nick Ascue enters his first season as the baseball program’s Volunteer Assistant Coach in 2020. Ascue has three-plus years of NCAA coaching experience – most recently in a full-time role at Centre College in Danville, Kentucky. At Bowling Green, Ascue will work closely with the BGSU catchers and hitters.
At Centre College, Ascue guided the Colonels to its single-season record for wins while improving the program’s offensive production by 52 runs. Centre College catchers saved more runs than the league average in fielding, blocking and throwing. The team’s caught-stealing percentage increased by 61 percent from the previous year.
Ascue coached at Covenant College from 2016-18, while also completing successful stints at two summer collegiate organizations. Ascue was the hitting coach for the Fayetteville Swampdogs of the CPL in 2019 and in 2018, he was part of the staff for the Watertown Rapids of the PGCL.
Ascue played collegiately at UVA-Wise and Averett University (‘15). He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Coaching from Averett, prior to receiving his Master’s in M.Ed Coaching Education and Athlete Development from Xavier University in 2018.
