Hoffberg compiled a 187-88-22 record in 10 years with the Tigers including six trips to the NCAA tournament. The 187 victories place him in a tie-for-100th on the NCAA All-Time coaching win list. RIT reached the NCAA finals in 1996 and semifinals in 1999. This past year's RIT squad compiled a 26-3-2 overall mark with its only regular-season loss coming at Plattsburgh State. The Tigers were the highest scoring NCAA Division III team (6.68 goals per game) in the country, while ranking 10th in defense (2.87 goals allowed per game), and seventh in power-play percentage (29.5%).
He guided the Tigers to three ECAC titles, nine ECAC tournament appearances as well as coaching 11 All-Americans and 27 ECAC All-League honorees.
Hoffberg served on the NCAA Division III championship committee the last seven years and served as the national chair in his final year on the committee.
The native of Rochester, New York, graduated from Elmira (NY) College in 1986 with a double major in marketing and english. He played his final two years at EC under Brian McCutcheon. Hoffberg served as team captain his senior year leading the Soaring Eagles into the NCAA tournament.
Following graduation, he was the assistant coach at EC during the 1986-87 campaign. The following year he was an assistant coach at RIT under Bruce Delventhal, before serving as Buddy Powers' assistant for the Tigers during the 1988-89 season.
A strong advocate of being involved in the local community, Hoffberg directed his hockey team in such community activities as Habitat for Humanity, free youth hockey clinics and preparing meals for AIDS Rochester.
Hoffberg is single and resides in Bowling Green.
