The BGSU alum became the fifth coach in the 40-year history of Falcon Hockey on April 15, 2002.
In his six years at the helm, Paluch[apos]s teams have fatured four All-CCHA selections, three All-CCHA Rookie Team selections, four NHL Draft picks and more than a dozen players go on to sign professional contracts.
Just last season, Paluch guided the Falcons to their second home playoff series berth in four years and the most wins a BG team has had since the 1995-96 season. Included in those wins was a victory over top-ranked Miami and a first round playoff series win over Lake Superior State - the school[apos]s first since 2001.
In his first year at the helm, the Falcons had their lowest penalties-per-game average (7.6) and penalty-minutes average (17.22) in 10 years. Also, the Falcons power-play percentage was among the league[apos]s best. In the classroom, the 2002-03 hockey team was honored for having the most improved grade-point average for a team with 20 or more members at BGSU, going from a 2.85 team GPA to a 3.08 GPA.
In 2004-05 Paluch led the Falcons to their first home playoff series since 1995, and gave them their first .500-plus season both overall (16-16-4) and CCHA (13-12-3) in nearly a decade.
In 2005-06, despite the Falcons disappointing year, Paluch helped lead the Falcons to a 2-1-1 series win over Ohio State and a 1-1 record with Michigan and Michigan State. Prior to the 2005-06 season the last time the Falcons had a combined .500 or above record versus that trio in the regular season was back in the 1995-96 campaign.
Paluch spent the 1992-93 and 1993-94 seasons as a full-time assistant coach at Bowling Green and served the previous two years as a volunteer assistant under head coach Jerry York. Paluch then served as an assistant at Boston College under York from 1994-2002, holding the associate head coach title with the Eagles for the last seven years.
During his time in Chestnut Hill, Paluch served on a coaching staff that helped return the BC Hockey program to national prominence. The Eagles advanced to four-consecutive Frozen Fours from 1997-2001, and won the national championship in 2001. In four of his last five years at Boston College the Eagles registered 27-or-more wins, including a school-record 31 in 2001.
In August of 2000, Paluch served as assistant coach of the U.S. Under-18 Select Team that competed in the 2000 Under-18 Four Nations Tournament in Kezmarok, Slovakia. In 2001, Paluch was head coach for the U.S. Under-17 Select Team that competed in the Under-17 Four Nations Tournament in Prievidza, Slovakia.
Paluch made his mark on the Falcons[apos] program during his four years as a player (1984-88). Individually, Paluch earned All-America and All-CCHA first team accolades as a senior during the 1987-88 season. That year he tallied 61 points, the second-highest single-season total by a BG defenseman while also serving as team captain. Paluch completed his collegiate career with 169 points (48 goals, 121 assists), 19th on Bowling Green[apos]s career list. He is the school[apos]s all-time leading goal-scoring and point-producing defenseman. He is second all-time in the CCHA for goals scored by a defenseman (48).
He guided BGSU to four-consecutive winning seasons and a .655 winning percentage. The Falcons won 33 games and captured the CCHA regular-season title his junior season (1986-87), and won 30 games and earned the program[apos]s first CCHA Tournament title at Joe Louis Arena in his final season (1987-88). Bowling Green earned NCAA Tournament bids both years.
Paluch also was a member of the Team USA squad that captured a bronze medal at the 1986 World Junior Championship in Hamilton, Ontario.
Following his college career, Paluch signed a professional contract with the St. Louis Blues. He played two seasons for Peoria, the Blues[apos] International Hockey League affiliate. In his two seasons, Paluch played 160 games, recording 21 goals and 69 assists.
Paluch earned his degree in sport management from BGSU in May of 1991. Scott and his wife, Amy Jo (also a BGSU graduate), have three children; 13-year-old son, Jacob, 10-year-old daughter, Casey, and 6-year-old son, Ben.
