BGSU Women's Basketball Wins MAC Title, Makes Deep Run In WNIT
The Bowling Green women's basketball team had one of its greatest seasons in the storied history of the program in 2013-14, going 30-5 on the season. The Falcons added a 17-1 mark in Mid-American Conference play and rebounded from a disappointing loss in the MAC Tournament to make a deep run in the WNIT. Despite the dominant season, it wasn't without drama. In fact, the Falcons went into the final day of the regular season needing a win and some help to earn the outright regular season crown. With a Central Michigan loss, coupled with Jillian Halfhill's late lay-up for a win at Akron, Bowling Green did earn that championship (for recap, CLICK HERE). While the team was upset in the MAC Tournament and were one of the last teams left out of the NCAA Tournament despite a 27-4 record, the Falcons refocused and gave their fans four more home games. BGSU opened the WNIT with wins over High Point and St. Bonaventure to set up a rematch of an early-season Bowling Green victory over Michigan. The Falcons again prevailed with a 63-53 win (for story, CLICK HERE). BGSU then hosted Rutgers in the quarterfinals of the WNIT and the Scarlet Knights rallied in the second half to end the Falcons' dream season.
With the successful season, BGSU women's basketball has won a MAC division crown in nine of the last 10 seasons and has earned the league's best regular season record across both divisions eight times in that 10-year span.
