THIS WEEK IN FALCON HOCKEY ...
Bowling Green (4-6-0, 1-5-0) comes off a weekend full of highs and lows but ready for their first road trip to the “Uper” this season. The Falcons will take on the Northern Michigan Wildcats (3-5-1, 3-3-0) in Marquette, Mich. twice at the Berry Events Center. Northern Michigan is the second team BGSU will face within their five-team cluster after hosting Notre Dame last weekend.

LAST TIME OUT ...
... the Falcons felt all the highs and lows a single weekend could provide. Bowling Green took it to nationally-ranked Notre Dame, beating them Friday night by a 3-2 score. The Falcons had control of the game for the first two periods, carrying the momentum and a 2-1 lead into the third period off of goals from sophomores Marc Rodriguez (Aurora, Ill.) and Jordan Samuels-Thomas (South Windsor, Conn.). Camden Wojtala (Fr., Trenton, Mich.) sealed the win with his second goal in as many nights giving the Falcons a 3-1 lead and breaking a streak of 38 consecutive BGSU power play that had been killed. With Rob Blake and Mike “Doc” Emrick being recognized and honored before the start of Saturday's game, the Falcons again jumped out to a 2-1 lead after the first period of play but the Irish stormed back with three unanswered goals in the second period to set the tone for the rest of the game. Bowling Green fell 6-3 to the Fighting Irish Saturday night, settling for a split on the weekend. The Friday night win was their first win in conference of the season, putting them on the board with points in the conference standings.
THE STARTING FIVE - Five Facts On BGSU Hockey
(1) The Falcons are two wins away from achieving 800 wins in the program's 41-year varsity history. They split with nationally-ranked Notre Dame last week to improve its all-time program record to 798-700-100.
(2) Bowling Green will also play in the program's 1,600th game on Saturday night against Northern Michigan on Nov. 13.
(3) The all-time series between the Falcons and the Wildcats of Northern Michigan University favors NMU slightly, 34-30-6. Bowling Green has struggled recently having not beaten NMU in its last four meetings (0-3-1-0) and having not won in Marquette, Mich. since 3/13/01.
(4) Bowling Green State University celebrated its Centennial earlier this week, acknowledging its founding on Nov. 10, 1910.
(5) During the 2008-09 Stanley Cup Championship run of the Pittsburgh Penguins, head coach and BGSU alum Dan Bylsma ate a Chicken Ancho Chile BBQ Burrito from Qdoba Mexican Grille before every championship game and won the cup that year. BGSU SID Ryan Gasser does this on every Friday home game and in two chances (since he did not eat Qdoba on the season opener vs. Michigan), BGSU is 2-0-0 when he eats the same menu item. Just saying ... (Unfortunately, there are no Qdobas in the entire Uper)
GOING FOR 800!
The Bowling Green Falcon hockey program is one with a storied history and over its 40+ year existance the program has racked up 798 wins (just short of an average of 20 wins per season). The Falcons have a chance to get that 800th win while in Marquette, Mich. against Northern Michigan University this weekend with a sweep of the Wildcats. Here are a list of what coach brought home milestone wins for the Falcon program:
Win #100 - Ron Mason
Win #200 - Ron Mason
Win #300 - Jerry York
Win #400 - Jerry York
Win #500 - Jerry York
Win #600 - Buddy Powers
Win #700 - Buddy Powers
Win #800 - ??
HOW MANY GAMES HAVE YOU PLAYED?!
Not only are the Falcons going for a milestone win this weekend, but they will also be playing for another milestone number this weekend against NMU. Bowling Green will play in the programs' 1,600th game in program history on Saturday, Nov. 13.
M-ROD HAS CAREER WEEKEND
Sophomore forward Marc Rodriguez (Aurora, Ill.) had the best weekend (statistically) against Notre Dame on Nov. 5-6. Rodriguez had not had a multiple point night in his career but had TWO against the Irish over the weekend with a 1-3-4 line over the two-game span.He scored BGSU's first goal in Friday night's 3-2 win then assisted on the second Falcon goal. Ironically enough, he also contributed on the first two Falcon goals of Saturday night's game as well, this time assisting on each. Rodriguez is already having a career year with a 3-4-7 line this season after a 3-2-5 line in 2009-10.
GROVER POSTING HOCKEY OR VOLLEYBALL STATS?
Though defense is an area where Bowling Green looks to improve upon this weekend, sophomore defenseman Max Grover (Kentwood, Mich.) leads the Falcons in blocked shots with 17 on the season. Three times Grover has registered four blocks, twice against Alaska and then again on Saturday (Nov. 6) against Notre Dame. Bobby Shea (Harrison Township, Mich.) is next on the team with 12 blocks on the season.
