Leady Named MAC East Pitcher of the Week

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- After setting a new career high for strikeouts in a game against the Eastern Michigan Eagles this weekend, Kevin Leady was named the Mid-American Conference East Pitcher of the Week today by the league office.
The senior lead the Falcons to their lone win this weekend against the Eastern Michigan Eagles with a performance that ranks among the best of his career. Leady went 7.1 innings against the Eagles, allowing three runs and striking out ten hitters in the Falcons' 4-3 win on Sunday (4/4).
Leady struck out four of his ten total within the first two innings. He struck out the side in the second inning to end a threat when the bases were loaded with no outs and struck out the side for the second time in the game, fanning three straight in a one-two-three fifth inning. Leady finished the game with a new career-high ten strikeouts in the game, eclipsing a previous high set earlier this season (9) against Butler on March 8. He pulled down his third win of the season, the most by any Falcon starting pitcher this season. He now also leads the staff in strikeouts (33) and innings pitched (37.1). The start against EMU is his second consecutive quality start in a row, both in which he allowed only three earned runs and had a SO:BB ratio of 5:1 in. Combined in his last two starts, he has struck out 15, walked three and only allowed 6 earned runs (8 total) in 14.2 innings pitched.
On the season, Leady is 3-1 overall with a 4.34 ERA in six starts this season. In 37.1 innings pitched, he has struck out 33 batters (team-high) and walked ten batters. He leads the Falcons in wins, innings pitched and strikeouts.
