BGSU Takes Strides at Spartan Invitational

EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Bowling Green State University track and field team posted several outstanding performances as they competed on Saturday (April 7) at the 2012 Spartan Invitational, which was hosted by Michigan State University. The event was a non-scoring meet.
Several Falcons earned third-place finishes in their respective events.
Natalie Sommerville took third in the 400-meter hurdles by setting a personal record time of 1:03.98. Sommerville has surpassed her previous personal record at each outdoor meet this season. She also finished eighth in the 100-meter hurdles (16.07) on Saturday.
Allison Weimer took third place in the 400-meter dash and led a trio of Falcons who finished in the top ten of the event. Weimer posted a mark of 57.62 seconds. Felicia Jefferson placed fourth in 58.83 seconds, while Alicia Jefferson followed in sixth place (59.95). Lisa Worthey was right on their heels and completed the run in 1:00.61 for 11th place.
Worthey and both Jeffersons also competed in the 200-meter dash. Felicia Jefferson led the trio with a 12th place finish in 25.40 seconds.
Allorian Horne also earned a top-ten finish in a sprint by taking seventh place in the 100-meter dash after a run of 12.57 seconds.
BGSU relay teams also had a successful day. The 4x100 relay team of Horne, Felicia Jefferson, Weimer and Janelle Campbell finished second overall with a time of 47.72 seconds. The 4x400 relay team earned third place. Horne, Jefferson, Weimer and Natalie Sommerville posted a season-best time by finishing In 3:54.49.
In field events, Campbell competed in two events. She earned third place in the triple jump when she posted a mark of 10.70 meters (35-01.25). She also took fifth place in the long jump thanks to a leap of 5.46 meters (17-11.00).
Emily Gerken and Krystin Reiser also earned high marks in the high jump. Gerken's best jump was 1.61 meters (5-3.25), while Reiser's was 1.56 meters (5-1.25). They placed seventh and ninth overall, respectively.
Ashley Harris and Anna Pomento turned in top-ten performances in the shot put and discus throw. Harris had a third-place throw of 13.66 meters (44-9.75) in the shot put, then placed ninth in the discus with a toss of 40.89 meters (134-02). Pomento earned tenth place in both events.
Several BGSU athletes who are redshirting during this year's outdoor season turned in outstanding performances of their own on Saturday.
Jeanette Pettigrew won the 100-meter dash after a run of 12.01 seconds, then placed third in the 200-meter dash.
Not to be outdone, Brooke Pleger won the hammer throw with a monstrous toss of 61.22 meters (200-10).
Jasmine Redman (5000 meters), as well as Megan Monte and Maria Meredith (3000 meter steeplechase) also earned top-ten finishes as unattached competitors.
BGSU's next action takes place in Muncie, Ind. on Saturday, April 14th when the team competes at the Ball State Dual.
