Falcons Flock To Ypsilanti For Weekend Series

The Bowling Green State University baseball team will travel to Ypsilanti, Mich. for a weekend tilt with the Eagles of Eastern Michigan University. The Falcons will be back in action after taking a break for final exams this past week. They will enter the weekend with an 18-25 overall record, and 7-11 in the MAC. EMU comes into the weekend with an overall mark of 20-23, and 10-8 in the MAC.
Last weekend, the Falcons took two-of-three from Ohio University. On Friday, the Falcons defeated the Bobcats 4-3, with Matt Malewitz picking up the win. After rain forced the postponement of Saturday's ballgame, the Falcons and Bobcats came back for a Sunday doubleheader. After Ohio defeated the Falcons in game one, the Falcons would take game two to take the series from the second place Bobcats. The Falcons are now 10-3 at home on the season.
Last weekend, Northern Illinois took two-of-three from EMU in Ypsilanti. The Eagles would lose on Friday and Sunday, but took Saturday's game from the Huskies. The Eagles, who are coached by Jay Alexander, currently sit in a tie for fourth place in the Mid-American Conference.
Andrew Kubuski continues to lead the Falcon attack offensively, batting .380 in 42 starts this season. Kubuski, the Falcons left fielder, has 27 RBI on the season, while successfully stealing a base in all five attempts this year. Brian Bien has been solid in all phases since taking over at second base. The freshman from Cincinnati, Ohio is batting .344 with nine extra-base hits on the season. T.J. Losby, the only Falcon to play in every game this season, is hitting .333 on the year, while leading the team with 33 RBI. The Falcons hit .293 as a ballclub, while having a team ERA of 4.81.
Danny Schmitz, who is in his 22 nd season at the helm of the Brown and Orange, graduated from Eastern Michigan University in 1979.
Eastern Michigan enters the weekend with a team batting average of .278. They are led by Ben Magsig, a senior infielder from Okemos, Mich. Sam Ott is the only player to start every game for EMU. He comes into the weekend batting .316 on the season. Eastern Michigan has a team ERA of 5.95.
