Mistakes Costly As Falcons Fall At Eastern Michigan Friday

YPSILANTI, Mich. (BGSU Athletic Communications) - The Bowling Green State University baseball team committed four errors on Friday night, leading to eight unearned runs, as Eastern Michigan defeated the Falcons, 10-3. The Falcons scored the first two runs of the game, but Eastern Michigan followed with the next ten runs, en route to the victory. With the win, the Eagles improve to 21-23 overall, 11-8 in MAC play. The Falcons drop to 18-26 overall, and 7-12 in the MAC with the loss.
The Falcons would load the bases with just one out in the second inning, and take advantage with an RBI groundout and an RBI single to go ahead 2-0 after two. Jesse Rait would hit a high-chopper to the first baseman, as the Eagles would retire Walker at second on the play, but Losby would come across to score the first run of the game. The next batter, Brandon Howard, would single through the right side to score Patrick Lancaster with two outs in the second.
The Falcons would gift wrap the third inning for Eastern Michigan, allowing five runs, all of which were unearned. The inning started with two Falcon throwing errors, putting EMU runners on second and third with nobody out. Five of the next seven Eagles would single, giving EMU a 5-2 lead after three.
Starter Matt Malewitz would last just two batters into the fourth, going just three innings on the night. He allowed six runs, while just one run was earned.
Eastern Michigan would get five more runs over the next three innings, four of them charged to sophomore righty Ben Singer. However, just one of those runs was earned, as the Falcons would commit two more errors to give EMU a 10-2 lead through six innings.
The Falcons would get another run in the eighth on a Matt Vannett RBI walk to score Alex Davison, who had singled earlier in the inning.
Although Fred Sharp would get an infield single in the ninth, the Falcons could not mount a rally, falling by a final of 10-3 on Friday evening. The Eagles outhit Bowling Green 11-6 on the night.
Neil Butara got the win for Eastern Michigan, going eight innings and allowing three runs. He struck out eight Falcons, while surrendering six hits.
The two teams will meet at 3 pm tomorrow afternoon at Oestrike Stadium for game two of the series.
