Carpenter Named To The 2013 Academic All-District Team
May 17, 2013 | Ice Hockey
CoSIDA announced its 2013 Capital One Academic All-District® Men's At-Large Team Thursday night, honoring sophomore Ryan Carpenter in the process. Carpenter's name will now be placed on a national ballot where he will be eligible for the Capital One Academic All-America® Team.
Carpenter, an Oviedo, Fla. native, was named to the All-CCHA Second Team this past season, marking the first Bowling Green selection to the first or second team since 2007-08 (Derek Whitmore). Carpenter was also named to the CCHA Scholar-Athlete Team, and was honored with the 2012-13 Dr. Ron Zwierlein Leadership Award at the annual team banquet. Carpenter played in all 41 of Bowling Green's games this season, finishing first on the team in goals, scoring a career-best 18 in 2012-13. He finished the season with 15 assists, and led the Falcons with a career-best 33 points, reaching the 30-point plateau for the second-straight season and earning the Sam Cooper award as the team's leading scorer.
Carpenter, a team captain this past season, most recently finished the spring semester with a 4.0 grade-point average, giving him a cumulative grade-point average of 3.955 over his college career. Now an accounting major, Carpenter is looking to become the Falcons' first Capital One Academic All-America® Team member since D'Arcy McConvey was named to the At-Large Third Team back in 2003-04.
The Capital One Academic All-District® Men's and Women's At-Large Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, have been released to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Capital One became the entitlement rights holder to CoSIDA's Academic All-America teams programs in 2011.
The Academic All-District® teams include the student-athletes listed on the link at the top of this page, and are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada.
This is the second year of the expanded Academic All-America® program as CoSIDA moved from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non Division I) and doubles the number of scholar-athletes honored. The expanded teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
The Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
