Morgantown, W.Va. – The Bowling Green State University gymnastics team posted a season-high 195.725 team score, despite falling to Big 10 opponent Ohio State at No. 25 West Virginia on Sunday afternoon. The Falcons lost to the Buckeyes by just .200, as the squad's team score now sits in the record book as sixth best in school history.
Â
Bowling Green trailed the Mountaineers and the Buckeyes after the first rotation, but moved past the Buckeyes following the second, thanks to a season-high team floor performance by the Orange and Brown. The Falcons found themselves down after three rotations and were unable to overcome the deficits to WVU and OSU.
Â
"I am so pleased with the effort today," said head coach Kerrie Turner. "The team put together a great meet from start to finish. This score will greatly benefit our regional qualifying score. The entire team is incredibly motivated as we move into our next competition."
Â
On BGSU's first event, senior Caroline Ellingboe shined on beam, scoring a career-high 9.875, earning her a first place finish on the event. Senior Alyssa Nocella, sophomore Laura Mitchell, and junior Victoria Heath also contributed to the solid beam rotation, all posting scores of a 9.725 or higher. Mitchell posted a 9.825 in the anchor spot, earning her a third place finish on the event. After struggling on beam the last two weeks, the Falcons got redemption by scoring a 48.825, which marks their third highest score this season on the event.
Â
First-year gymnasts came through for the Falcons, as freshman Rachel Creagh earned a career-high 9.725 to start the team off on floor exercise and freshman Erika Houser crushed her previous best score of a 9.550, receiving a 9.775 after only being in the floor line-up for two meets. Junior Lauren Feely (9.875) earned her career-high on the event, while Nocella (9.900) tied her season-high, leading her to a third place finish. The 49.125 team score earned on floor was a season-high on the apparatus for the Orange and Brown.
Â

Freshman Lauren De Meno posted a personal best 9.800, making her one of 10 Falcons to either tie or better their career bests in the tri-meet.
