Falcons Record 18 Hits In Series Opener At Elon
May 18, 2017 | Baseball
ELON, N.C. – The Bowling Green State University baseball team pounded out a season-high 18 hits, but Elon University hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to steal a 12-11 victory from the Falcons on Thursday (May 18) night Latham Park.
Bowling Green out-hit Elon, 18-9, and led the entire game prior to the three-run home run. Jake Wilson recorded a career-high five hits in the loss. The rookie went 5-for-6 with two runs and an RBI.
"This is obviously one of the more difficult losses on the season," said head coach Danny Schmitz. "We led the entire game, and they changed everything with one swing. It's been great to see the offense come around, but we'll need to play more of a complete game in order to win the series."
Randy Righter also had a huge day for the Falcons at the plate, going 3-for-5 with four runs, and two RBI. Righter also hit his sixth home run of the season. Justin Mott, Joe McGuinness, Cam Daugherty and Jeff Scott each went 2-for-5. Nick Glanzman scored two runs, as well.
Bowling Green will conclude its regular season tomorrow (May 19). The Falcons and Elon will conclude the three-game series with a doubleheader, which is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
With the results around the Mid-American Conference today, the Falcons are still alive for a berth in the MAC Tournament. To stay alive for another day, BGSU will need Eastern Michigan to beat Toledo, on top of needing Western Michigan to beat Buffalo.
