>>FALCONS ON TAP
- The Bowling Green State University hockey team will play against Western Michigan in the second game of their home-and-home series with the Broncos.
- The Falcons will host the Broncos in Slater Family Ice Arena on Tuesday, Oct. 23 at 7:37 pm.
- This is the final time these two former CCHA foes will face-off during this regular season.
>>VERSUS WESTERN MICHIGAN
- All-time, the Falcons hold a 72-60-8 advantage over Western Michigan.
- The Falcons most recent win over Western Michigan came earlier this season on Oct. 9, 2018 in a 6-2 victory in Lawson Arena in Kalamazoo. It marked Coach Bergeron's first victory at Western Michigan as a head coach.
- Bowling Green's 6-2 victory earlier this month was their first over Western Michigan since Jan. 18, 2013 when the Falcons defeated the Broncos at home by a final score of 3-2. This took place during the final season of the CCHA.
- Their 6-2 victory was also Bowling Green's their first win at Western Michigan since Jan. 19, 2008 when the Falcons won 2-1 in overtime.
>>ABOUT LAST WEEKEND
- The Falcons enter this matchup following a 3-1-0 start to the 2018-19 campaign that saw them play four games over an eight day period. This included three games on the road in seven days.
- Bowling Green defeated then No. 18 Western Michigan 6-2 on Tuesday night (Oct. 9) at Lawson Ice Arena in Kalamazoo, Mich. The Falcons tallied six goals despite being outshot 36 to 19 on the evening. This thanks in large part to goaltender Ryan Bednard, who had 34 saves.
- Tim Theocharidis, Connor Ford, and Casey Linkenheld all extended their score streaks going into the series with Robert Morris to two games, each of them having one goal apiece. Freshman Taylor Schneider scored his first career goal for Bowling Green early in the third period against WMU to extend BGSU's lead back to two.
- Bowling Green then came up one goal short dropping the series opener to Robert Morris by a final score of 3 to 2 on Friday night (Oct. 12) at Colonials Arena in Pittsburgh, PA. The Falcons struck twice out shooting the Colonials 39 to 28 in the contest.
- The Falcons then followed up with a 6-0 victory over Robert Morris in game two of the series that also served as Bowling Green's home opener in Slater Family Ice Arena Sunday night (Oct. 14). Ryan Bednard concluded his evening with a 15 save shut-out to lift the Falcons to a 3-1-0 record to start the season.
>>MAXING OUT THE BOX SCORE
- Through their first four games, the Falcons sat atop college hockey in total scoring with 22 goals and 40 assists. As of Monday Oct. 15, 2018, a total of seven Falcons were top 20 in the nation in scoring. Brandon Kruse and Max Johnson alone were both tied for first with eight points each.
- Â To this point in the season, Bowling Green has outscored their opponents by a total of 22 to 7 in goals scored. Bowling Green has also outshot opponents 126 to 99 so far this year.
- The week's success garnered the Falcons two more WCHA award winners with Ryan Bednard being voted Goaltender of the Week, and Cameron Wright being voted Forward of the Week.
>>PRESEASON POLLS PEG BOWLING GREEN
- Bowling Green was voted to finish second overall in the UAHhockey.com WCHA Media preseason poll, and third in the 2018 Mankato Free Press preseason poll.
- Junior Falcon defenseman Alec Rauhauser was voted First Team All-WCHA by both the media and the coaches. Rauhuaser's contributions to the 2017-18 campaign included leading the squad with 39 points by nine goals and a team-leading 30 assists. The 39 points marked the most by a single Falcon since the 2008-09 season.Â
- Three more Falcons were voted Second Team All-WCHA by the media. Sophomore forward Brandon Kruse, senior defenseman Chris Pohlkamp and junior goaltender Ryan Bednard all made the cut.
>>2018-19 FALCON HOCKEY OUTLOOK
- For the upcoming season, the Falcons will look to return 12 of 16 forwards, all seven defensemen, and all three goaltenders from the 2017-18 campaign that saw the Falcons claim a Great Lakes Invitational Championship.
- Bowling Green garnered 159 points in the media preseason poll, and 76 points in the coaches'. Â The Falcons also had one vote for the top finish on the year in the media preseason poll.
