Late Rally Not Enough For Falcons in 9-7 Loss To Siena

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio  - The Bowling Green State University baseball team opened the three game series with the Siena Saints on Saturday, March 16, by a score of 9-7. The loss moves the Falcons overall record to 3-11, including a 1-1 standing at Steller Field.
Siena posted a crooked number in the first inning, scoring four runs, but the Falcons fought back, bringing the score to 4-3 by the end of the fourth inning. However, in the fifth, both teams put up three runs to push the score to 7-6. The Saints kept the scoring going, adding too more in the top of the sixth for a 9-6 lead. Bowling Green made a late push in the bottom of the ninth, but were only able to notch one run in the 9-7 final.
In the third, Jake Wilson singled up the middle to bring in Ty Sunkten to get the Orange and Brown on the board. Following up in the fourth, Tyler Haas knocked a sacrifice fly to center that scored Neil Lambert along with a Ryan Johnson single to left that allowed Ty Sunkten to touch home plate for the second time.
In the fifth for the Falcons, Haas added two more RBIs on a single to the right field gap. Both Brad Croy and Anthony Smith were able to score on Haas' hit. In the next at-bat, Ty Sunkten split the fist and second baseman for a single with Riley Minorik coming in from third to bring the score to 7-6.
In the ninth, a late rally effort brought Mike Malewitz home on a fielder's choice hit by Lambert. The late score created a 9-7 final for the Orange and Brown in game one of the series with Siena.
On the mound, Andrew Abrahamowicz got the start for BGSU. In four innings, Abrahamowicz allowed four runs, three earned, while notching five strikeouts. Following, Abrahamowicz was credited with the loss, moving his record on the season to 0-1.
Damon Egnor (0.2 innings), Griffin Parrill (0.1 inning) and Daniel Buratto (4.0 inning) came on in relief for Bowling Green. The trio combined for five runs, all earned, while also punching out five batters.
For Siena, Tommy Miller went eight innings for his second win of the season with Mike McMully tallied his second save for the Saints.
