Bowling Green Schedule
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Coming off of its fifth consecutive 20-win season and first NCAA Tournament berth in 29 years, the Bowling Green State University hockey program has announced its schedule for the 2019-20 campaign. The regular season will include a total of 36 games, including 17 at home in the Slater Family Ice Arena, and two Ice Breaker Tournament games.
The Falcons' 17 home games will include three non-conference matchups, and 14 Western Collegiate Hockey Association games. For the season, Bowling Green will have a total of 28 WCHA games and eight non-conference matchups.
After opening the season with a non-conference road game at Miami, Bowling Green will play host to the annual Ice Breaker Tournament at the Huntington Center in Toledo, Ohio. The Falcons will begin the tournament against RIT on Oct. 11 with their second matchup being between Western Michigan or Ohio State on Oct. 12. BG will hold its home opener on Friday, Oct. 18 against non-conference foe Western Michigan as part of a home-and-home series.
The Falcons will host rival Michigan Tech in a standard two-game series Oct. 25-26 in the WCHA opener, prior to a trip to Mankato to take on Minnesota State on Nov. 1-2. Following a bye week, BGSU will make their first of two trips Alaska to take on the Seawolves of UAA (Nov. 15-16).
BGSU will then host Lake Superior State on Nov. 22-23 before a series against another old CCHA rival, the University of Notre Dame. The Falcons will travel to South Bend on Friday Nov. 29, and host the Fighting Irish in Slater Family Ice Arena on Nov. 30. BG then rounds out the first half of the season at home versus Alabama Huntsville (Dec. 6-7) and on the road at Lake Superior State (Dec. 13-14).
Former Head Coach Chris Bergeron makes his highly anticipated return to Bowling Green to start the second half of the season, when the Falcons host the Miami Redhawks on Monday, Dec. 30. The Orange and Brown then host Northern Michigan on Jan. 3-4 before traveling to Michigan Tech for their second two game series on Jan. 10-11. Minnesota State then comes to town for their second series of the year on Jan. 17-18.
Â
Following another bye week, the final month of the regular season will include a road trip to Bemidji State (Jan. 31-Feb. 1), a home series against Alaska Anchorage (Feb. 7-8) and a second trip to Alaska as the Falcons take on Alaska Fairbanks (Feb. 14-15). The final home series of the regular season will take place on Feb. 21-22 against Ferris State. BGSU will then close the year at Alabama Huntsville (Feb. 28-29).
The WCHA Playoffs will again be held entirely at campus sites. The quarterfinal and semifinal series will be best two-of-three from March 6-8 and March 13-15, respectively, while the WCHA Championship will be a single game contest on Saturday, March 21, giving the Falcons the potential to earn up to seven additional home games prior to the NCAA Tournament.
The 2019-20 campaign will be new Head Coach Ty Eigner's first year at the helm of the Orange and Brown. All-WCHA Second Team honorees Alec Rauhauser and Brandon Kruse will be returning to the squad for the 2019-20 season, along with two of the national leaders in power play goal scoring Connor Ford and Max Johnson. Bowling Green and its four-player senior class will look to host its seventh consecutive first round series in the 2020 WCHAÂ Playoffs, in addition of the hopes to earn a sixth straight 20-win season and their second straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
