Falcons Beat By Cardinals In Saturday Doubleheader

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball team was defeated by Ball State University in both games of a Saturday (May 1) doubleheader. The Cardinals won the ballgames by scores of 6-2 and 11-7. The four-game Mid-American Conference series is being staged at Steller Field at Gary Haas Stadium in Bowling Green.
Dylan Dohanos had two of BG's four hits in the opener, including a two-run home run to right field, which marked his first-career home run in the Orange and Brown. Logan Bell finished out the game for the Falcons, allowing just two hits over 3.0 shutout innings on the mound.
The Cardinals jumped out to an 11-2 advantage in the night cap, but the Falcons batted around and scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh. Six different Falcons recorded a hit in the second game of the doubleheader, while Nathan Rose led the squad with a two-RBI game.
Will MacLean and Levi Gazarek combined for 3.1 innings of one-hit, no-run baseball out of the Bowling Green bullpen. MacLean surrendered one hit over 1.1 innings. Gazarek was perfect, setting down all six batters he faced while also registering a strikeout.
Bowling Green drops to 9-14 in league play with the pair of defeats. With the doubleheader sweep, the first-place Cardinals improve to 19-4. The series finale is set for Sunday (May 2) at 1:05 p.m. Prior to the game, seniors Andy Gaytan, Nathan Lohmeier and David Stopp will be honored in a pre-game ceremony.
