Falcons Win First Game, Force Extras In Second Against Kent State

KENT, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball program split Saturday's (April 9) doubleheader against the Kent State Golden Flashes. The Falcons took the first game, a seven-inning contest, by a 6-4 final with Nathan Rose leading the way at the dish with three RBI. As for the second game, the Falcons battled back from a 4-0 deficit to tie the game at 4-4 and force extra innings, but a double in the 10th pushed the score, and final, to the Golden Flashes.
Bowling Green and Kent State will conclude the series on Sunday (April 10) with a 1:00 p.m. start. A win would give the Falcons the series victory, having won two of the first three games on the weekend.

HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 1
- Kent State scored the first run of the game, a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning. The Golden Flashes added another with an RBI double to extend their lead to 2-0.
- A sacrifice fly in the second inning pushed the Kent State lead to 3-0.
- Nathan Archer answered for the Falcons, blasting a home run to right field in the third inning to cut the lead to 3-1.
- The home run sparked a rally for the Falcons. Jack Krause drew a walk before an Adam Fallon single put two on for BGSU. Kyle Gurney delivered a single up the middle, scoring Krause, to make it 3-2. Adam Furnas hit a single to left to score Fallon and tie it up.
- Nathan Rose then knocked a double to left center, scoring Gurney, to put BGSU up 4-3.
- In Rose's next at-bat, coming in the fifth, he hit into a fielder's choice with runners at the corners, allowing Gurney to score and push the Falcons' lead to 5-3.
- Kent State answered in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI double to trim the score to 5-4.
- Bowling Green added a tally to their score in the top of the seventh. Adam Fallon singled to begin the inning and stole second before advancing to third on a wild pitch. Rose was able to beat out a chopper in front of the third baseman, allowing Fallon to score and increase the lead to 6-4.

HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 2
- After two and a half scoreless innings to begin the game, Kent State logged the first runs of the contest in the bottom of the third. An RBI single paired with a three-run home run put the Golden Flashes up 4-0.
- Bowling Green answered in the top of the fifth. Nathan Archer was hit by a pitcher before a Ryan Johnston single and Jack Krause walk loaded the bases for BGSU. Kyle Gurney was then also hit by a pitch, forcing home Archer, followed by a walk to Adam Furnas, scoring Johnston, to make it 4-2.
- With two outs in the top of the ninth, Nathan Rose came through with a single to right field, scoring both Adam Fallon and Jack Krause to tie it up at 4-4.
- In extra innings, Kent State doubled into the gap to score the game-winning run at 5-4.

- Nathan Rose tallied five RBI over the two games for the Falcons while being 4-for-8 at the plate.
- Isaiah Seidel posted another strong outing for Bowling Green, not allowing a run over 4.1 innings of work. Seidel hasn't allowed an earned run over his last four appearances, totaling 10 innings while striking out 10.
- Logging a hit in both games, Adam Fallon now has a seven-game hitting streak.
