From Golden Grizzlies To Golden Flashes: BGSU To Face Kent State This Weekend

KENT, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball program will stay on the road for this weekend's series against Kent State, moving from the Golden Grizzlies to the Golden Flashes. The four-game series will be played at Olga Mural Field at Schoonover Stadium. This series starts a long stretch of MAC play for the Falcons, with the next non-conference game being the May 10 matchup with Toledo at Fifth Third Field, the fifth consecutive game against the Rockets.

The Falcons last saw the field on Tuesday night (April 5) against Oakland. The Golden Grizzlies ran out 3-2 winners, but the Falcons continue to show signs of improvement as the season progresses. Bowling Green was able to climb back to a tied game with a two-run seventh inning, but a score in the bottom of the eighth swung the result back to Oakland.

Scouting The Golden Flashes
Kent State is below .500 currently, sitting at 10-12, but they have gone 5-5 in MAC play so far. The Golden Flashes have played a rather tough non-conference schedule, with five of their losses coming to Texas Tech and UConn, who ranked 20th and 25th in the country, respectively, at the time of the matchups. Their last series was against UConn, and the Golden Flashes held up well. They lost by one run in the series opener, followed by a loss in 10 innings before they won the series finale. The last MAC play for Kent State was against Northern Illinois, where the Golden Flashes went 3-1 in the series.

The Falcons and the Golden Flashes have a storied history, with the first matchup between the two dating back to 1936. Two of the Falcons' six games that season were against Kent State, with the Golden Flashes winning both. The last matchup between these two was last season, when Kent State came into Bowling Green and swept the Falcons in a four-game series.

On Tuesday (April 5), the Oakland Golden Grizzlies won 3-2 on a go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth. Where the Falcons excelled in Rochester was on the mound, as both Jeremy Spezia and Isaiah Seidel were brilliant again. Spezia went four innings, allowing just three hits, two earned runs, and walking only one. Seidel came out of the bullpen, and despite picking up the loss, pitched just as well. He gave up three hits in 3.2 innings, allowing just one unearned run, walking none and striking out six.
