BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University softball team pounded out 13 hits in Saturday's (April 29) second game, but the Falcons ultimately fell to Kent State University in doubleheader action. The Golden Flashes picked up wins by scores of 11-1 and 12-8 in a Mid-American Conference twinbill at Meserve Field.
The Falcons (8-38, 1-25 MAC) celebrated Senior Day on Saturday, with six Falcons – Ally Bezjak, Hannah Davies, Greta L'Esperance, Madison Lenig, Sydney Stepp and Sophie Weber – recognized in ceremonies prior to the first game. All six players saw action in the twinbill.
BGSU took an early lead in the first game, with four first-inning hits. But, the Golden Flashes (16-29, 11-12 MAC) tied the contest in the top of the second inning, then scored three times in the fourth inning and four times in the fifth.
The nightcap saw the teams score a combined total of 20 runs, and that game also featured 28 hits and six errors. KSU hit a pair of two-run homers en route to an early 5-0 lead, before the Falcons got four runs in the third inning. BG could never catch the visitors, however, and the Flashes held off a late Falcon surge for the win.
Hannah Hunt had a pair of multiple-hit games on Saturday, going 2-for-2 with a walk in the opener and 2-for-4 with a three-run double in the nightcap. She raised her season batting average nearly 40 points on the afternoon.
Delaney Davis and Reagan Williamson each had three hits in game two,. Williamson had BG's lone RBI on a first-inning base hit in the day's first game, before going 3-for-4 with a walk in the second contest.
BGSU-KSU GAME ONE – HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Falcons took an early lead on a bevy of first-inning singles. Peyton Dolejs, Sophie Weber and Reagan Williamson had hits, with Williamson's single to left scoring Dolejs from second.
• But, the Flashes tied the contest on a Jade Ramer single in the second inning, and the visitors took the lead in the fourth. The latter inning saw Savannah Wing lead off with a single, before Emily Lippe followed with a two-run, opposite-field homer. KSU added an unearned run later in the frame when Ramer's single scored Sydney Shammo, who had reached base on an error.
• The Flashes scored four times in the fifth inning to take an 8-1 lead. A Bri Despines walk with the bases loaded was followed by an Abbie Wilfing single. On the latter play, three runs scored due to a BGSU error.
• And, the visitors added three seventh-inning runs to seal the deal.
• Wing paced KSU's 14-hit attack by going 3-for-4 with three runs scored, while Lippe, Ramer and Wilfong each had two hits.
• Hannah Hunt led the Orange and Brown in game one, going 2-for-2 with a walk and a double.

BGSU-KSU GAME TWO – HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Flashes took a 5-0 lead after two and a half innings. Despines hit a two-run homer in the first, while Delaney Robeson had a two-run shot in the third, before the visitors added an unearned run.
• But, BGSU countered with a four-run third inning. Delaney Davis was hit by a pitch with one out, and Williamson followed with a single. Marti Henkel walked to load the bases, and Makailah Dees singled up the middle to allow Davis to trot home.
• Then, Hunt cleared the bases with a three-run double that got the Falcons within a single run, at 5-4.
• KSU scored twice in the top of the fourth, with singles by Lippe and Wing each bringing a teammate across the plate.
• But, the Falcons again responded, scoring two times in the bottom of the inning. Wynnie Reid singled with one out, and after a Dolejs fielder's choice, Delaney Davis had a bunt single. On the play, the KSU throw toward first was off line and went all the way into the right-field corner. Dolejs scored easily, and Davis slid into the plate ahead of the throw, cutting Kent State's lead to 7-6.
• But, after allowing a 'Little League home run,' the Flashes answered with one of their own in the very next half inning. KSU loaded the bases on a single, a hit batter and an infield hit. Alexandria Whitmore's ground ball resulted in a 1-2-3 double play, but Despines followed with a grounder to third, reaching safely as the throw to first was off the mark. Despines took second on the errant throw, then broke for third. She was safe on another error, and was able to score on the play, giving KSU a 10-6 lead.
• The Flashes added two more runs in the top of the seventh, before BG got those runs back in the bottom of the inning. Weber singled with one out, and Ally Bezjak's grounder nearly resulted in a force play, but the KSU second baseman dropped the shortstop's toss, and BG had runners at first and second.
• Scarlet Anderson ripped a ball to left for a single, with Weber scoring. Then, a Davis hit with two outs plated pinch-runner Katie Hutter. But, the Falcons would pull no closer as a fly ball was caught in right to end the game.
• Davis was 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, while Hunt went 2-for-3 and drove in three teammates. Williamson had three hits and Weber two as BG had 13 hits as a team.
• For the Flashes, Despines was 3-for-4 with four runs and three RBI, while Robeson went 3-for-5, scoring twice and driving in two runs.
