Weilbacher and Rivelli Shine in Season Opener for Gymnastics
January 07, 2024 | Gymnastics
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green Falcons fell in the season-opening gymnastics meet to Illinois State, 195.950-192.975, as Kathryn Weilbacher won the all-around and Isabella Rivelli took the bars win. The meet was contested at the Stroh Center on Sunday afternoon.
Weilbacher scored a 39.225 in the all-around and Rivelli scored a 9.825 on bars to pace Bowling Green.
Inside the Scoresheet
• Love Akpan made her collegiate debut and participated in the all-around
• Keira Thornton made her collegiate debut on vault, bars and floor
• Nadia Parente made her collegiate debut on beam
• Charniya Brown had a career-best 9.800 on vault
From the Locker Room
"I feel we had a pretty decent start on the first three events. We had a few nervous mistakes, but you are going to see that the first meet. I was disappointed with our last event [floor] and there were mistakes there that didn't need to happen. Our team work so hard and every time we go out, they want to be successful. I told them this was a learning opportunity. We have NIU coming next week, and we are going to have to be grittier. We are going to have to be tougher. We must be mentally on point. We will learn from this, we will improve, and get that last event in place to go for the win." – Kerrie Turner, BGSU head coach
