DJ Newman added a triple of his own and scored four times for the Orange and Brown.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Falcons and RedHawks played a scoreless first. Miami put runners at the corners with one out, but DJ Newman tallied a strikeout and a fly out to exit the inning unharmed.
- The first BGSU hit of the game came in the top of the second with Tyler Ross putting a single down the first base line.
- Jack Krause drew a four-pitch walk later in the inning followed by a five-pitch walk to Caden Parker to load the bases for the Falcons with one out.
- After an out was recorded, Garrett Wright drew another walk for the Falcons, pushing Ross home for the first run of the game and a 1-0 BGSU lead.
- Nathan Archer followed with a two-RBI single through the right side to give Bowling Green a 3-0 lead going into the bottom of the second.
- Sam Seidel began the third inning by drawing a walk and took second on an error off a pickoff attempt. Seidel moved to third on a Newman grounder before a sacrifice fly off the bat of Ross scored Seidel for a 4-0 BGSU advantage.
- In the bottom of the third, Miami logged their second hit of the game. However, Wright caught the runner trying to second later in the inning to keep the BGSU lead in place through three innings played.
- After a quiet fourth, Archer began the fifth inning with a leadoff triple. Seidel and Newman drew walks to load the bases, setting up a two-RBI single to right center for Ross to push the lead to 6-0.
- Leighton Banjoff followed with a single to left, once again loading the bases with no outs and prompting a pitching change for the RedHawks.
- Miami recorded an out, but Parker drew another walk to push Newman home. During the next at-bat, a throwing error by the pitcher on a pickoff attempt went rogue, allowing Ross to score and push the BGSU lead to 8-0.
- The RedHawks got on the board in the bottom of the fifth with a solo home run to begin the inning and cut into the lead, 8-1. Newman ended the inning with back-to-back strikeouts looking.
- In the sixth, Archer drew a walk and advanced to third in the inning before Newman ripped a triple to right, scoring Archer. Ross continued the two-out rally with a double to left to plate Newman and stretch the lead to 10-1.
- Miami tallied 10 runs in the sixth to move in front 11-10. The game entered a rain delay after the inning concluded.
- Miami added four runs to their lead in the seventh to push the score to 15-10.
- Archer began the eighth inning with a double followed by walks to Seidel and Newman to load the bases. A single for Ross brought home one. Banjoff followed with another RBI single to bring the score to 15-12.
- After a mound visit for Miami, Krause continued the streak of singles for BGSU, knocking one to score Newman, keep the bases loaded and make it a 15-13 score.
- In the next at-bat, Parker laced a line drive to first that resulted in an error with Ross scoring and the bases remaining loaded.
- TJ Takats entered the game as a pinch hitter for the Falcons and delivered a two-RBI single up the middle to push the Falcons back in front 16-15.
- A solo home run for Miami to start the bottom of the eighth tied the game at 16-16.
