BGSU Advances To 2-0 In MAC For First Time Since 2019
OXFORD, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball team continued a strong weekend at the plate, scoring 12 runs in a 12-1 victory over Miami (OH). The win moves BGSU to 2-0 in the MAC for the first time since 2019. It also secures the Falcons a series win to open MAC play for the first time since 2021.
After a scoreless first inning, the BGSU offense came to life, scoring two runs in the second and two runs in the third for a 4-0 lead. The RedHawks got on the board in the fourth inning with a run, but BGSU responded with one in the fifth and five in the sixth for a 10-1 lead. The Falcons added runs in the seventh and the ninth for the 12-1 final.
Nic Good was stellar on the mound for BGSU, tossing seven innings and giving up just one hit while striking out seven and allowing a run. Owen Poole came on in relief and closed the door. At the dish, Tyler Ross extended his strong weekend with three more RBI, now with nine in the two games against Miami. Leighton Banjoff recorded three RBI as well with five Falcons logging multiple hits in the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first base runner in the game came in the bottom of the first with the RedHawks legging out an infield single, but Nic Good retired the next three batters for a scoreless first inning.
- The first BGSU base runner came in the top of the second with Jack Krause drawing a two-out walk. Cooper McKenzie followed with a walk as well to put two on for the Falcons.
- Gavin Ganun delivered the first Bowling Green hit, logging an RBI single to score Krause. TJ Takats followed with an RBI single of his own to score McKenzie and give BGSU a 2-0 lead.
- In the third, DJ Newman drew a one-out walk to set up an RBI triple for Tyler Ross. Leighton Banjoff then hit a sacrifice fly out to center, scoring Ross and stretching the Bowling Green lead to 4-0.
- Good continued his strong start on the mound, working a one-two-three bottom of the third to keep the 4-0 score intact through three innings.
- Miami (OH) tallied their first run with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth for a 4-1 score after four innings played.
- The Falcons quickly put together an answer. Newman drew a walk in the fifth and scored on a single from Banjoff to make it 5-1 BGSU.
- Bowling Green recorded a two-out rally in the sixth. Takats began the rally with a single to left. Archer then singled to right to put runners at the corners before stealing second to put two in scoring position. Sam Seidel stepped in and delivered a single to right, scoring both Takats and Archer.
- The rally continued with Newman drawing a walk before Ross belted a double to left center, scoring Seidel and Newman. Banjoff followed with a single to center, scoring Ross and extending the BGSU lead to 10-1.
- The Falcons tallied another run in the seventh. Ganun singled to put a runner on. Later in the inning, Archer hit a ground-rule double, scoring Ganun for an 11-1 advantage.
- In the ninth, Zack Horky drew a pinch hit walk. Caden Parker pinch ran for Horky, making his way to third in the inning before scoring on a double play to extend the lead to 12-1.

- With the win, the Falcons advance to 2-0 in MAC play for the first time since 2019 and have secured a series win in their first MAC series for the first time since 2021.
- Through two MAC games, Bowling Green has now scored 29 runs the most of any team in the MAC this weekend. The next closest is Miami's 17.
- In the start, Nic Good allowed just one hit in seven innings, coming in the leadoff at-bat of the game for Miami and didn't leave the infield. Good finished with seven strikeouts and one run allowed.
- Sam Seidel's single in the sixth inning continued his on-base streak to 11 games for the Falcons, reaching in each game so far this season.
- DJ Newman drew three walks in the game and scored three times. Newman has now reached in 10 of BGSU's 11 games this season. During the series, he's drawn six walks and scored seven times.
- Tyler Ross logged an RBI triple in the third inning marking the second triple of his BGSU career and first of the season. Ross ended the game with three RBI, giving him nine during the series after entering the weekend with three on the season.
- Registering an RBI on a sacrifice fly in the third inning and two more with singles in the fifth and sixth, Leighton Banjoff has now recorded an RBI in three straight games for the Falcons with five over the span.
- With his second inning RBI, TJ Takats now has a hit and an RBI in back-to-back games after starting the series 1-for-1 with two RBI in a pinch hit at-bat. Takats added another single in the sixth for his first multiple-hit game as a Falcon.
- Gavin Ganun stole second in the fourth inning for his first stolen base of the season and second of his career after having one during the 2023 campaign. Ganun also logged his first multiple-hit game of the season.
- Drawing a second inning walk, Cooper McKenzie extended his on-base streak to four games, reaching in each game he has made a plate appearance.
- Nathan Archer also stole his first bag of the season, now with 31 with Bowling Green.
