Krause’s Ninth-Inning Blast, Five RBI Day Clinches BGSU Win Over NIU

Falcons Tally 10th-Straight MAC Win
DeKALB, Ill. – The Bowling Green State University baseball team picked up their 10th-straight win over a MAC opponent on Friday (April 5), taking the first game of the series against Northern Illinois by a 7-4 final. The Falcons tallied four runs in the third inning to jump out to an early lead. The Huskies battled back to tie the game with three in the fourth and one in the seventh, sending the two teams to the ninth tied. Jack Krause broke the knotted score with a three-run home run to grant BGSU the 7-4 victory.
On the day, Krause tallied RBI on five of BGSU's seven runs over the course of the game, a new career-high for the senior. DJ Newman added three hits to the offensive effort while Leighton Banjoff recorded a pair of doubles for the red-hot Bowling Green offense. Garrett Wright added a multiple-hit day as well while Sam Seidel scored twice and Tyler Ross walked three times. BGSU showed aggression on base paths, swiping a season-high six bases in the game.

BGSU and NIU will play a doubleheader on Saturday (April 6) to conclude the weekend series. The first game will begin at 12 p.m. EST with the second game following. The Falcons will then head to Columbus, Ohio on Tuesday (April 9) to face the Ohio State Buckeyes. The next home game for the Falcons is scheduled for Wednesday, April 10 at 3 p.m. against Purdue Fort Wayne.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Garrett Wright singled down the left field line to begin the third inning. He stole second with a walk to Sam Seidel putting two on. Wright and Seidel both advanced on a wild pitch before a Tyler Ross walk loaded the bases. Another wild pitch was enough for Wright to score for a 1-0 BGSU lead.
- Jack Krause worked a full count at the plate before hitting a single to center, scoring both Seidel and Ross to push the Bowling Green advantage to 3-0.
- The two-out rally continued for the Falcons with Leighton Banjoff stepping in. Banjoff pulled a double down the left field line to score Krause and stretch the score to 4-0 Falcons.
- Northern Illinois' first run of the game came in the bottom of the fourth with two doubles, one to reach and one to score, for a 4-1 tally.
- A two-run home run followed the doubles for NIU to bring the score to 4-3.
- After scoreless innings in the fifth and sixth, a solo home run for the Huskies tied the game in the bottom of the seventh.
- In the ninth, Seidel was hit by a pitch to start the inning with DJ Newman knocking a single. With two runners on, Krause delivered a three-run blast to put BGSU back in front with a 7-4 lead.

- Jack Krause singled in the third inning to center, a hit that continued his on-base streak to 14 games for the Orange and Brown. The hit also now has Krause at a four-game hitting streak.
- Krause later homered in the ninth, his sixth home run of the season for his third multiple-hit game in the last four contests. He also finished with a career-high five RBI.
- Sam Seidel singled in his first at-bat of the game, extending his on-base streak to 22 games to start the season, accounting for every game he's played in this year. Going back to last season, Seidel has reached in 33 straight games.
- Later in the first inning, Tyler Ross drew a walk to push his on-base streak to 18 games, also accounting for every game he's appeared in this year. Ross' streak is at 19 going back to last season.
- Nathan Archer singled in the sixth to extend his team-leading hitting streak to five games now.
- TJ Takats was hit by a pitch in the eighth inning to extend his on-base streak to 13 games for the Falcons.
- Picking up the win on the mound, Connar Penrod has now tallied two wins this season and seven for the Falcons over his BGSU career, the most on the team. Penrod has now logged four-straight scoreless appearances and hasn't allowed a run in six of his last seven outings.
- Leighton Banjoff smacked two doubles for the Orange and Brown, his first game as a Falcon with multiple doubles.
