Joey Gamache enters his fifth season with the Falcons in the 2026 campaign. Gamache arrived in Bowling Green prior to the 2022Â season after stints with Eastern Illinois and The Citadel.
During his fourth season with the Falcons in 2025, Gamache and the Falcons put together another historic campaign. As a team, BGSU broke the program record for strikeouts in a season for the second straight year with 431 while also setting the record of innings pitched with 480.1 as well as fielding putouts with 1,441. The team also recorded an 11-game winning streak, tied for the third-longest in program history. Bowling Green tallied 33 wins over the course of the season, the first time with back-to-back 30-win seasons for the team since 2001-02. At the season conclusion, both Garrett Wright and Connar Penrod were named All-MAC First Team while Wright took home the MAC Defensive Player of the Year honor. In total, Wright broke three program records while Penrod broke one, being saves in a season with 12.
During his third season with Bowling Green in 2024, Gamache assisted the Falcons to a program record 24 MAC wins while also tying the program record for MAC winning percentage (.800, 24-6). Bowling Green captured the MAC Regular Season title, the program's first since 2009. Additionally, BGSU had nine players receive a program record 14 All-Conference honors at the conclusion of the regular season. As a team, the Falcons broke the program records for walks drawn (310), strikeouts thrown (403) and fielding percentage (.976). Offensively, the Falcons averaged 9.2 runs per game, ranking eighth in the nation, registered a program record 33 RBI in a game against Ball State and scored the second-most runs in program history for a game with 34 against Ball State. In total, BGSU tied or broke nine records across program history for single-game, single-season and career.
In his second season with the Falcons, Gamache assisted the Falcons to a win on the road over No. 5 Louisville by a score of 9-6 as well as an impressive 21-1 victory over Northern Illinois at home. BGSU closed out the season with a 16-5 victory over Toledo at Fifth Third Field to wrap up the season's Battle of I-75, splitting the four-game season series.Â
Following the season, the Orange and Brown had a pair of All-Americans. Kyle Gurney was named CSC Academic All-America, becoming just the second player in program history to receive the recognition multiple times. DJ Newman earned Freshman All-America honors from both Collegiate Baseball and NCBWA. As for MAC awards, Newman was named the MAC Freshman Pitcher of the Year and First-Team All-MAC as a DH. Nathan Archer was named MAC All-Defensive Team (OF) and Second-Team All-MAC while Gurney was named Second-Team All-MAC as well.Â
During his first season with the Falcons in 2022, Gamache aided the Falcons to an 18-34 finish while being 14-24 in conference play. At the plate, the Orange and Brown produced one of the program's best seasons during the BBCOR era (since 2011), logging the most doubles (95), triples (17), home runs (46) and RBI (284) while producing the best slugging percentage (.442) and on-base percentage (.367) with the second-best batting average (.281).
With Eastern Illinois, Gamache coached first base and worked with the catchers while assisting with hitting. With Gamache’s guidance, the Panthers went 25-23, posting their first season above .500 since 2009. With the Panthers, Gamache worked closely with Trey Sweeney who went on to be named First-Team All-America, the OVC Player of the Year and was selected 20th overall by the New York Yankees.Â
As for his time at The Citadel, Gamache served as the Director of Operations and Video Coordinator during the shortened COVID season, seeing the team finish 10-6.Â
Aside from collegiate baseball, Gamache was an assistant coach for the Vermont Lake Monsters of the FCBL during the summer of 2021. The Lake Monsters won the league championship and went 30-6 over the last 36 games of the season to capture first place and the title.Â
Gamache also was an assistant coach with the Mandan Flickertails (Bismark, N.D.) in the Bismarck Pod of the Northwoods League during the summer of 2020. In this role, Gamache coached third base while working with the hitters and coaching the infielders and catchers.Â
Gamache earned a degree in exercise science from Springfield College where he played from 2016-2018. Gamache played both middle infield and served as a relief pitcher for the Pride. As a sophomore in 2016, Gamache posted the lowest ERA for the program since 1977 with a mark of 1.50. He went 1-0 over seven appearances while totaling 12 innings pitched. As for his junior season, Gamache went 2-0 through five starts, totaling 30.2 innings with an ERA of 3.52 and 24 strikeouts.Â
