Falcons Face Broncos To Open MAC Play
March 22, 2012 | Baseball
The Bowling Green State University baseball team will head to Kalamazoo, Mich. this weekend to open up the Mid-American Conference portion of the schedule with a three game set against the Broncos of Western Michigan. The Falcons enter the weekend with a record of 8-12 (3-4 away), while the Broncos have a record of 7-10 (0-0 home).
The Starting Lineup
1. The Falcons and Broncos have played each other 130 times in program history. The Falcons have a record of 56-74 heading into the weekend series with the Broncos.
2. Last season to open MAC play, the Falcons took two-of-three on the road from Northern Illinois.
3. After scoring 54 runs in the first 15 games of the season (4-11 record), the Falcon bats have heated up, scoring 68 runs in the last five (4-1).
4. The Falcons come into the weekend with three road wins already under their belt in 2012. In 2011, Bowling Green only won eight games on the road.
5. This will serve as the home-opener for the Broncos this weekend. Last season, Western Michigan went 7-10 at home.
6. T.J. Losby has been a catalyst for the Falcon offense so far this season. Losby only had seven RBI all of last season, but this season he already has 21 in just 20 games.
7. So far, the Falcons have nine players with at least 30 at-bats who are hitting over .300. Last year, the Falcons only had two players with at least 30 at-bats finish with batting averages above .300.
8. Andrew Kubuski is coming off a week in which he led the Falcons to a 4-1 record and hit .450. He hit two home runs, including a grand slam, in Saturday's 22-2 win over Eastern Kentucky, and drove in seven. He had 12 RBI for the week, and was named MAC East Player of the Week for his efforts. He was also named Central region player of the week by collegebaseballinsider.com (MAC POW) (CBI POW)
9. While the defense has been improved as of late, the Falcons have still committed 49 errors to date. Last season, the Falcons only committed 55 errors, which was good for a school-record .972 fielding percentage.
