SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The Bowling Green State University ice hockey team lost to 16th-ranked Lake Superior State University on Saturday night (Nov.30), 4-3, in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association affair. Playing in front of 1,601 fans at the Taffy Abel Arena, the Falcons saw two different skaters score goals, while freshman goaltender Tomas Sholl (2-6-0) turned away 28-of-32 shots.

Lake Superior outshot the Falcons 13-12 in the opening period, however, Bowling Green made the most of their opportunities and lit-the-lamp first with a goal 14:24 into the period at full-strength. As Bowling Green entered the Laker zone, the puck appeared to hit an official and redirected towards Mingo. The right-handed forward from Canton, Mich. quickly fired the puck towards Lakers' goaltender Kevin Murdock and went into the back of the net, handing Bowling Green an early 1-0 lead.
The 16th-ranked team in the nation responded with a late goal in the second period. It appeared Bowling Green would enter the final period with a one-goal lead, but Lakers' forward Dan Radke scored at the 19:49 mark to tie the game at 1-1. With time ticking down, Lake Superior won a battle along the boards and Colin Campbell found a waiting Radke near the right circle. Radke was able to send a wrist shot past Sholl for the Lakers' first maker of the evening.
The momentum carried over into the third period for Lake Superior, lighting the lamp at 2:25 to give them their first lead of the game. After a Falcon turnover, Lakers' Andrew Perrault fired a shot near the left circle. Garret Clemment was able to deflect the puck and beat Sholl to grab a 2-1 lead.
It only took 40 seconds later for the Orange and Brown to respond, and lit-the-lamp 3:05 into the final frame to tie the game at 2-2. DeSalvo received a pass from freshman Kevin Dufour through the neutral zone on the left wing and fired a wrist shot Murdock's glove side.
With the game tied, Mingo scored once more to hand Bowling Green their second lead of the game. Brent Tate found a skating Mingo across the slot in the Lakers' zone. Mingo corralled the puck and fired a shot while falling down for his second tally of the game. The marker 6:48 into the third period gave the Orange and Brown a 3-2 lead.
