Box Score
ANN ARBOR, Mich.—The Bowling Green State University baseball team stuck tough with Big Ten foe Michigan on Tuesday afternoon, before falling by a final score of 2-0. The game was a nonconference tune up for the Falcons, as they prepare to host Eastern Michigan this weekend at Steller Field. With the loss, the Falcons drop to 6-17 overall, while the Wolverines improved to 12-14.
Michigan would jump on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first, a two out single jump-starting their offense in the inning. After the infield single and a stolen base to put the runner into scoring position, the Wolverines would get a single to take a 1-0 lead.
True freshman Brett Fitzwater made the start for the Brown and Orange, going three innings and allowing just the one earned run. He was tabbed with the loss, as the Falcon offense struggled to take advantage of its opportunities all afternoon against the Michigan pitching staff.
The Falcons recorded just five hits in the game, but would leave 11 runners on base. In three different innings, the Falcons would strand runners in scoring position to end the inning.
Michigan got their second run of the game in the bottom of the second, taking advantage of two Falcon errors. Again, the Wolverines would have nobody on with two outs. But, two walks and a two-error play later, Michigan would lead by a two-run advantage.
From there both pitching staffs would hold strong, as the Falcons used six pitchers on the afternoon. After Fitzwater, Chris Miller, Jason Link, Devin Daugherty, Ben Singer, and Nick Bruns would all pitch an inning.
The Falcons will continue their Michigan stretch of the schedule, as they will play Eastern Michigan at Steller Field this weekend. The Falcons will look to continue climbing the MAC standings, as they won 2-of-3 on the road at Central Michigan last weekend. The Falcons have now played seven straight games against foes hailing from Michigan.
First pitch this weekend will be Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. vs. the Eastern Michigan Eagles. Saturday and Sunday will both begin at 1 p.m.
