ANN ARBOR, Mich.—Bowling Green State University went on the road to University of Michigan on Tuesday, defeating the Wolverines for the second time in three years with a 7-4 triumph. The Falcons broke a 4-4 tie with two runs in the top of the seventh, en route to their fifth straight victory. Bowling Green improves to 17-19 on the season with the win.
Bowling Green did much of their damage after two were out in the game, scoring three runs in the top of the first to take an early lead. Jeremy Shay walked with two outs in the top of the first, giving the Falcons a base runner to get the rally started. After a T.J. Losby single, Trey Keegan would walk to load the bases.
With the bases loaded and two outs, Patrick Lancaster would double into left field to score two Falcons for an early advantage. Keegan would then come home on a throwing error by Michigan, and Bowling Green led 3-0 after half an inning.
Tyler Anderson got off to a good start on the mound, tossing two scoreless innings before running into trouble in the third.
After the Falcons had added a run in the top of the third, Michigan would counter with four runs of their own to tie the game at 4-4. After a leadoff single—Michigan's first hit—Trey Miller would homer to left field to cut the lead in half. A hit by pitch and walk would lead to two singles, as the Wolverines stormed back to tie it up.
The middle three innings would be scoreless for both teams, as Jason Link, Johnny Crawford, and Ben Singer each tossed a scoreless inning during that stretch.
In the top of the seventh, Jesse Rait would lead off with a walk and advance to second on a sacrifice bunt by Brian Bien. Jake Thomas would walk to give the Falcons two runners. They would both advance into scoring position on a wild pitch.
Shay would make the Wolverines pay, as he knocked a single into center field to give the Falcons a 5-4 lead. The Orange and Brown would score another run on a Michigan error with two outs in the seventh, increasing their lead to 6-4.
In the top of the ninth the Falcons would get a key insurance run. Thomas doubled with two outs, and after a walk to Shay, scored on an RBI base hit by Losby.
Leading 7-4, Trevor Blaylock would come into the game to nail it down, retiring the Wolverines in order for his first save of the season. Blaylock is 1-0 with a save in his career versus Michigan.
