Baseball Inks Five To National Letters Of Intent

Ben Beutel (Davenport, Iowa / Assumption), Evan Brown (Maumee, Ohio / Anthony Wayne), Dylan Dohanos (Bowling Green, Ohio / Bowling Green), Nick Neibauer (Farmington Hills, Michigan / Detroit Country Day School), and David Steward (North Royalton, Ohio / North Royalton) will join the program for the 2018 season.
"We feel that this class provides us with a lot of athleticism and speed. We are happy that we were able to bring in some left-handed hitters to help balance our offensive attack. On the mound, we were able to bring in two top-tier arms that are capable of helping us out right away as freshmen. Above what each one of these student-athletes brings to our baseball program on the field, they are all outstanding young men who will represent BGSU and the Bowling Green community very well off of the field."
Ben Beutel | LHP | 6-0 | 160 | Davenport, Iowa | Assumption
HIGH SCHOOL: Attends Assumption High School after spending his first three years in high school at Davenport North High School … Earned three letters at Davenport … Also lettered in soccer … Named All-Conference as a sophomore and junior … Also picked up All-District honors as a junior … Selected to Quad-City Times All-Metro Team as a junior … Last season as a junior, struck out 54 batters over 46.0 innings, while posting a 1.37 ERA and holding batters to a .157 batting average … His sophomore season, registered 36 strikeouts in 26.1 innings, and held batters to a .143 batting average … Finished his sophomore season with a 1.86 ERA … Plays summer ball for the Quad-City Hitmen.
PERSONAL: Full name is Benjamin Patrick Beutel … Born Sept. 2, 1999 … Son of John and Terri Beutel … Has one older brother (Bryan) and one youngster sister (Amanda) … Brother played baseball at St. Ambrose University … Plans to major exercise science.
COACH'S COMMENTS: "Ben has great mound presence and knows how to compete. He has a live arm and with added strength, should make major strides early. He has the ability to throw strikes with all of his pitches and knows how to pitch."

Evan Brown | OF | 5-10 | 195 | Maumee, Ohio | Anthony Wayne
HIGH SCHOOL: Attends Anthony Wayne High School … Has earned four letters for coach Mark Nell … also lettered in football … His junior season in 2016, named First Team All-Conference, First Team All-District and PBR named him Honorable Mention All-State … Led his team to a 26-7 record and a district championship last season … Hit .345 as a junior with a .442 on-base percentage and a .448 slugging percentage … Stole 23 bases and hit two home runs in 2016 … Also won a district title in 2014 … plays summer ball for the Detroit Arsenal, and hit .455 last season and stole was 31-for-32 on stolen base attempts … Plays on the same summer ball team as Nick Neibauer.
PERSONAL: Full name is Evan Chadwick Brown … Born Aug. 20, 1998 … Son of Romie and Shawn Brown … Has one older brother (Peyton) and two youngster sisters (Chaise, Paige) … Two of his uncles played football at Toledo, and uncle Darren Anderson went on to play for the Atlanta Falcons and Tampa Bay Buccaneers … Plans to major in education.
COACH'S COMMENTS: "Evan is arguably one of the best athletes in the 2017 class in the whole state, being recently named conference Player of the Year for football and First Team All-Ohio. He has sub-6.6 speed, which allows him to cover a lot of ground in the outfield. He is an extremely hard-nosed kid and is a team-thinker first."

Dylan Dohanos | INF | 6-0 | 170 | Bowling Green, Ohio | Bowling Green
HIGH SCHOOL: Currently attends Bowling Green High School, after attending St. John's Jesuit High School as a freshman and sophomore … Has earned four varsity letters for baseball … Also lettered in basketball and football … Last season as a junior named First Team All-Conference and First Team All-District … Named BGHS's team MVP last season … Garnered Second Team All-State honors as a junior … Named All-District and All-Conference as a sophomore … Won the conference both years he attended St. John's Jesuit … Hit .329 as a freshman, .420 as a sophomore and .479 as a junior … Named the team captain last season … Guided the BGHS Bobcats to a 19-8 record last season … His teams at St. John's Jesuit combined to go 42-7 … A member of the honor roll across every semester in high school.
PERSONAL: Full name is Dylan Joseph Dohanos … Born Sept. 21, 1998 … Son of David and Jody Dohanos … Father played baseball at Toledo … Has one older brother (Derek) and one younger brother (Devon) … Plans to major in business marketing.
COACH'S COMMENTS: "Dylan is a very good athlete that is capable of playing multiple positions, but most importantly, he can play the middle of the infield. He has plus speed that will be able to garner some attention on the base paths. Dylan plays the game hard, and will be a welcomed addition to the roster."

Nick Neibauer | C | 6-3 | 205 | Farmington Hills, Michigan | Detroit Country Day School
HIGH SCHOOL: Attends Detroit Country Day School and has earned four varsity letters for coaches Steve Lepkowski, Rob Heumann and Matt Bonkowski … Also lettered in football … Hit .370 as a freshman, .388 as a sophomore and .425 as junior … Picked off 13 runners as a catcher and swiped 14 bases himself as a junior … Hit two home runs as a junior, and in his three years of varsity baseball to date, owns a .480 on-base percentage … Named All-Region as a junior, as well as being named All-County Honorable Mention … Captured the district title both his sophomore and junior years, and won a regional championship his junior year … Captain of the baseball team last season, and will be the captain this season, as well … Plays summer ball with Evan Brown with the Detroit Arsenal … Hit .390 last summer with two home runs and posted a .450 on-base percentage.

COACH'S COMMENTS: "Nick is a very athletic and physical player. He possesses a plus arm behind the dish to go along with his athleticism. He runs a 6.7 sixty and has plus pop in his bat from the left side. Nick knows how to win and hates to lose, and we look for him to come in with that mentality."

David Steward | RHP | 6-3 | 180 | North Royalton, Ohio | North Royalton
HIGH SCHOOL: Attends North Royalton High School … Plays for coach Brad Klingbeil … Will finish his career having earned three varsity letters … Also earned two letters on the football field … An Honorable Mention All-Suburban-League selection as a junior … Led his team to a state runner-up finish in 2014 … Fastball sits in the 86-90 MPH range … Has a changeup that clocks in at 70-75 MPH … His curveball sits in the 70-73 MPH range … Plays summer ball for the Premier Athletics.
PERSONAL: Full name is David Charles Steward … Born Aug. 19, 1998 … Father Chuck played baseball at BGSU, and is tied with Burke Badenhop for most wins across a single career (17) … Has three older brothers, Heather, Allison, Briana … Plans to major in business administration.
COACH'S COMMENTS: "David is long and lanky, with a quick arm. He has the ability to run his fastball up in the 90's and possesses a good curveball to go along with it. David has a very high ceiling and we look forward to seeing him reach it."
