Bowling Green Concludes Series With Northern Illinois

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball team concluded its three-game series versus Northern Illinois University with a 6-0 loss Sunday (May 1) afternoon at Steller Field. The Huskies claimed all three games over the weekend.
"We racked up a lot of hits today, but we never were able to get the big hit with runners in scoring position," said head coach Danny Schmitz. "We now have six more MAC games, and we will be battling for our lives each weekend. This was a disappointing series for us, especially because we were playing in front of our home fans."
Bowling Green drops to 16-28, and 6-12 in Mid-American Conference play with the loss. Northern Illinois, with the sweep, improves to 18-25 (12-6 MAC).
Bowling Green out-hit Northern Illinois, 11-10, but the Falcons were never able to get the huge hit with runners on base. Four Bowling Green errors played a role in allowing four unearned runs.
Starter Andrew Lacinak pitched well in the loss. He allowed five runs, but only one was earned. Lacinak pitched 6.1 innings, and kept the Falcons in the game throughout his outing. The southpaw struck out two batters, and walked one.
Northern Illinois' starter, Donovin Simns, remarkably, scattered 11 hits. The right-hander pitched seven shutout inning, struck out three batters, and did not issue he walk. Joey Ceja nailed down the win for the Huskies by throwing the final two frames.
Devin Daugherty and Tyler Anderson recorded scoreless appearances for the Falcons. Daugherty finished off the seventh inning with two consecutive outs, while Anderson hurled a perfect ninth inning.
Derek Drewes, Matt Smith and Kory Brown each went 2-for-4 in the loss for the Orange and Brown. Riley Minorik, Greg Basalyga, Logan Giddings, Tyler Greiner and Nick Glanzman registered a hit apiece.
Due to the fact that the upcoming week is exam week at BGSU, the Falcons will not play a midweek game. The Falcons will travel to Tallahassee, Florida over May 6-8 to take on national-power Florida State University.
