BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball team lost to Kent State University, 14-0, Friday (May 13) afternoon at Steller Field. The Falcons trailed by just two runs heading into the ninth inning, but Kent State ran away with the victory behind 12 ninth-inning runs. Kent State starter Eric Lauer did not give up a hit over his nine innings of work.
With the loss, Bowling Green drops to 16-33, and 6-13 in Mid-American Conference play. Kent State improves to 37-11 (18-4 MAC) on the season with the win.
"We will just have to come out tomorrow, and give a much better effort," said head coach Danny Schmitz. "I give Eric Lauer all the credit in the world for what he did today, but we still need to leave it all out on the field. We will need to flush this game, and get ready for the rest of the weekend."
Bowling Green starter Tyler Anderson pitched extremely well in the loss. The right-hander, who was making just his third start on the season, allowed just five hits and one run over six innings. Anderson left the ballgame after the sixth with the Falcons down just one run.
Anderson blanked Florida State over 4.1 innings last Friday in Tallahassee, Florida. He set a new career high today with the six innings pitched, and has been a huge bright spot after filling in for C.J. Schildt, who was injured in his start against Northern Illinois.
The Falcons will resume the series tomorrow afternoon at 1:05 p.m. The series will then conclude on Sunday. Sunday will serve as the program's Senior Day. Kory Brown, Devin Daugherty, Tyler Greiner, Andrew Lacinak and Matt Smith will be honored during a pre-game ceremony.
