Pair of Shorthanded Goals Lifts Falcons to 5-2 Win over Lakers

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green hockey program's (5-3-3, 4-1-3-2 WCHA) Stephen Baylis highlighted the 5-2 win over Lake Superior State (2-7-3, 1-3-2-0 WCHA) on Saturday evening by marking a career-high four point night. Bowling Green was able to score two shorthanded goals, while four Falcons had multi-point nights as the home team claimed five of six possible points on the weekend against the Lakers.

Scoring Plays
- Just 3:48 into the game, junior Stephen Baylis notched his first career shorthanded goal as he picked up the puck behind the Bowling Green net and brought it all the way down the ice to score top shelf.
- As sophomore Lukas Craggs threaded a pass through the Lake Superior State defense as they crossed the blue line, senior Mitch McLain was able to score a backhander down low in the slot for his third of the season midway through the game and regain the Bowling Green lead at 2-1.
- After the pair of shorthanded goals, Baylis scored his second of the night and the Falcons first at full strength as he fired a shot from a wide angle that beat the goalie with just 1:12 remaining in the second period. The goal helped the Falcons leave the ice with a 3-1 lead over the Lakers heading into the final period of play.
- Coming out of the gate strong, freshman Cameron Wright tallied his team-leading fifth goal of the season on the power play just 2:01 into the third period as he was able to take a quick shot down low that made it through traffic, lifting Bowling Green to a strong 4-1 lead.
- Rounding out the Bowling Green scoring slate was McLain with his second of the night as he tallied the empty-netter to seal the Falcons win at 5-2.
Statistical Standouts
- A native of Ottawa, Ontario, Baylis lit up the score sheet as he tallied two goals and two assists, to tie his career-high with a four-point night. After earning his first career shorthanded goal, Baylis also marked his second career multi-goal game.
- Senior captain Mitch McLain scored his team-leading fifth shorthanded goal to put the Falcons up 2-1 midway through the game, while it marks his fourth career multi-goal performance.
- In addition to Baylis and McLain, a total of four Falcons earned multi-point nights including freshman Cameron Wright, who marked one goal and one assist, as well as sophomore Lukas Craggs, who notched his second multi-point game of the season with a pair of assists.
- Sophomore goaltender Ryan Bednard also appeared on the score sheet as he earned his first career point with the second assist on Baylis' opening goal. Defensively, the Macomb, Mich. native stopped 29 of 31 Lake Superior State shots on goal for just two goals against on the night, and improves to a 2-2-2 record on the season.
- The Falcons held Lake Superior State scoreless on its six power play opportunities, burning 10 of its 11 penalty kills on the weekend. It is the fourth time this season that Bowling Green has held its opponents scoreless on the power play.
- The Falcons went 1-for-8 on its power play on the night, going 1-for-12 on the weekend. Bowling Green's power play generated six shots on goal in the 5-2 victory.
- Overall, Bowling Green outshot the Lakers 35-31 on the night, and tallied a strong total of 71 shots on goal on the weekend, compared to the Lakers 53 over the course of the series. Leading the team was sophomore defenseman Alec Rauhauser, who tallied a career-high of nine shots on goal in Saturday's game.
