No. 12 Falcons Complete Sweep Of No. 3 Minnesota State

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The No. 12 ranked Bowling Green State University hockey team completed the sweep of the No. 3 ranked Minnesota State Mavericks, winning game two on Saturday (Dec. 15) night by a final score of four to one. The Falcons got after them early with Tim Theocharidis and Lukas Craggs finding the back of the net in the first period. Craggs would notch one more on the night to tally his second multi-goal game on the season. Following a Minnesota State goal, Taylor Schneider would add one more for the Falcons to insure the game for Bowling Green. With this win, Bowling Green surpasses the Mavericks in the WCHA standings to sit alone in second place. This is the first time Minnesota State has been swept this season. This was the final series of the fall semester as the Falcons will have a brief break before returning to home ice on Sunday (Dec. 30) for an exhibition game with the University of Windsor. Puck drop for that game is scheduled for 12:00 pm.

- Bowling Green lit up the scoreboard first with a goal from Tim Theocharidis. He fired a rocket from the blue line at 16:27 into the first period. He was assisted by Sam Craggs on the play.
- Just a minute and a half later at 17:57 into the first period, Lukas Craggs tacked on another goal for the Falcons crashing the net to extend their lead to 2-0. Brandon Kruse was credited with the assist.
- One wasn't enough for Lukas Craggs, as he scored another goal from the left wing side just 3:36 into the second period. He was assisted by Max Johnson and Will Cullen.
- At 18:03 into the second period, Minnesota State capitalized on a power play opportunity with a goal from Connor Mackey with an assist from Andy Carroll and Jared Spooner.
- Freshman Taylor Schneider quickly answered the Maverick goal with one of his own just 43 seconds later. He did so unassisted.

- What started as a heated defensive game quickly switched momentum with the Falcons scoring two quick goals in the first period. Just one minute and 30 seconds separated the goals by Tim Theocharidis and Lukas Craggs. Both teams ended the first period with eight shots on goal.
- Going back to Friday's game, the Falcons stalled the Mavericks' first 11 power plays before they converted in the second period of Saturday's matchup.
- Following Bowling Green's third goal, Minnesota State goaltender Mathias Israelsson was pulled in exchange for Dryden McKay. He would play the rest of the game.
- On the series, the Falcons outscored the Mavericks by a total of 8-2.

- In his 100th career game for the Orange and Brown, Lukas Craggs extended his team lead in goals. He totals 12 on the season, with two scored in this game. Max Johnson is the closest, with nine goals.
- On Tim Theocharidis' goal, Brandon Kruse added another assist to his team leading total, now with 19 on the season. He also leads the team in total points with 25.
- Max Johnson tallied his 14th assist of the season, and his 23rd point. He is second in both categories for the team.
- Following this sweep, Bowling Green sits at second place in the WCHA standings with 28 total points in league play. They sit just a point behind Michigan Tech who have 29.
- With this sweep, the Falcons have played six games of the 2018-19 season against teams ranked nationally in the top 20, and have posted a record of 5-0-1 on those games.

- The Falcons will have a brief break from competition with their next game coming on Sunday (Dec. 30) when they take on the University of Windsor in an exhibition matchup. BGSU last played Windsor to kickoff the 2016 season, when the Falcons won 3-2 in the exhibition game. Bowling Green will resume WCHA play on Thursday (Jan. 3) as they face Bemidji State in the first of a two game home series.
