Croy Leads Falcons To Series-Opening Victory At SEMO

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Bowling Green State University baseball team opened its four-game series at Southeast Missouri State University with a 9-7 victory. The game was played at SEMO's Capaha Field.

The Falcons raced out to a huge 9-0 lead, as the Orange and Brown scored two runs in the first, before plating four in the third, and three in the fourth. Southeast Missouri, after scoring two runs in bottom of the fourth, scored five more in seventh.

The Redhawks put the tying run on second in that five-run seventh, but Bowling Green would get out of the jam and hold off SEMO over the final two innings.

Junior Brad Croy had a career day for the Falcons. Croy went 3-for-5 with two doubles and four RBI as the designated hitter, before switching to the mound. He went on to log 3.0 innings of one-run ball to earn the save. He struck out five over his 3.0 innings of work.

With the victory, Bowling Green improves to 1-3 in 2018, while Southeast Missouri drops to 0-5.

BREAKING DOWN THE OFFENSE
• Brad Croy got the offense going in the first inning with a two-RBI double to left-center.
• Doubles by Neil Lambert and Randy Righter gave the Falcons a 3-0 lead in the third. Croy recorded his third RBI of the game with a single to left. Righter then scored on a wild pitch, making the score, 5-0. The inning's scoring concluded with a Jeff Scott RBI ground out to third.
• After a Justin Mott leadoff double in the fourth, Gama Martinez scored him with a sacrifice fly. Another Croy double made the score, 8-0, before an error scored Righter.

• Senior Zac Carey picked up the win for the Falcons. He entered the seventh with the Falcons in front, 9-2. Carey struck out two.
• Neil Lambert went 2-for-5 in the contest with one run scored.
• Randy Righter had a big day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one RBI, one walk, and a game-high three runs scored.
• To go along with Brad Croy's three hits, Justin Mott registered Bowling Green's other hits.
• Senior Derek Drewes scored a run for Bowling Green, while also coaxing a walk.

"This was a great college baseball game," said head coach Danny Schmitz. "We came out really swinging the bats, and then we found a way to win late. We lost a few games last weekend in the eighth inning, so it was nice to see our guys learn from those experiences."
