CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Bowling Green State University baseball team was defeated by Southeast Missouri State University by a score of 8-4 on Saturday (Feb. 24) afternoon. The ballgame was played at SEMO's Capaha Field.
The Falcons won the opening game of the series, 9-7, yesterday evening. The two schools will meet for the series rubber match tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m.
"I thought we got another really strong start out of Kody Brown," said head coach Danny Schmitz. "Our starting pitching has been solid so far this season, and we have been able to get out to a lot of good starts. That formula wins you a lot of games, but we need to be able to execute in the three phrases for nine innings."
Bowling Green inched out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning, as Gama Martinez scored Neil Lambert with an RBI groundout. SEMO quickly regained the lead with single runs in the second and third innings, before Lambert tied the score at 2-2 with a two-out double in the fifth.
The Falcons received two more clutch two-out hits in the sixth. Nick Neibauer scored Randy Righter with a single, and then Jeff Scott made the score 4-2 in BGSU's favor with another single. However, SEMO broke the game open with a four-run seventh. The Redhawks tacked on an insurance run in the eighth.

• Senior Randy Righter went 1-for-4 with an RBI. Righter is hitting .350 on the young season.
