BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball team lost its series opener at Steller Field to Eastern Michigan University on Friday (March 30) by a score of 9-2. After the Falcons took a 2-0 lead, EMU finished the game by scoring nine unanswered runs.
"I thought Zac Carey did enough to win us the game, but after we scored the two early runs, we didn't do much else," said head coach Danny Schmitz. "We had nine hits, but we didn't take advantage of our opportunities. We'll need to come out with a better effort tomorrow."
Randy Righter got Bowling Green on the board in the first with a single to left field. In the third, Derek Drewes put BGSU on top by a 2-0 margin with a two-out base hit to center. However, EMU scored single runs in both the fourth and sixth, before exploding for seven runs over the final three innings of play.
Zac Carey was the tough-luck losing pitcher on the day. Carey allowed just five hits over 6.1 innings, but the Eagles took advantage of almost all of their opportunities, as they tagged Carey for five runs. On the day, EMU scored its nine runs on 10 hits.
Tomorrow's game will begin at 11:05 a.m. The game has been moved up due to expected weather later in the day. Prior to the game, BGSU head coach Danny Schmitz will be honored for reaching the 700-win plateau. Schmitz won his 700th game last Sunday, March 25, as the Falcons beat Ohio, 3-1.
