BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball team opened its series at Western Michigan University on Friday (April 13) with a 9-4 loss. The first game of the three-game series was played at WMU's Hyames Field.
With the loss, Bowling Green drops to 9-23 on the season. Western Michigan moved to 14-15 with the victory. Both schools are 4-6 in Mid-American Conference play.
"I liked our energy and focus at the beginning of the game," said head coach Danny Schmitz. "We got off to a strong start, but give them credit, they kept coming and we just weren't able to put much together offensively after the early stages of the game."
Bowling Green jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning. Cam Daugherty doubled home Neil Lambert, before Jake Wilson scored two runs with a bases-loaded single. However, WMU scored three in the fifth and four in the sixth to take back control of the game.
BGSU scored a single run the sixth prior to the Broncos' four-run bottom half. WMU ended the game's scoring with a tally in the seventh. The series concludes with 1 p.m. starts on Saturday and Sunday.
ADDITIONAL GAME NOTES
• Jake Wilson led the Falcons with two hits and two RBI. Wilson went 2-for-4 at the plate, while also drawing a walk.

• Zac Carey got the start for the Falcons. The right-hander allowed five earned runs over 5.1 innings of work. He struck out two batters, and did not issue a walk.
