MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Bowling Green State University baseball team lost its series finale to Central Michigan University, 9-6, Sunday (April 29) afternoon in Mount Pleasant. Central Michigan scored the final seven runs of the ballgame to pick up the win.
"Whenever we took the lead, they came right back the next half inning," said head coach Danny Schmitz. "We didn't give ourselves a chance to build on the lead and to keep the momentum. Give Central Michigan credit for fighting back, but we made a lot of mistakes to allow that. We didn't play a full game today."
Bowling Green falls to 10-29 on the season with the loss. The Falcons are 5-11 in Mid-American Conference play. Central Michigan improves to 19-23-1 (11-7 MAC) following today's win.
Ty Suntken started the scoring on the day with a two-run single in the second. In the fifth, Derek Drewes scored two with a single into right field, before Neil Lambert scored two more with a double into left field.
However, on both occasions, CMU scored the exact same amount of runs in the bottom half of the innings to tie the game. CMU plated two in the second, four in the fifth, and eventually won the game with a three-run sixth.
With finals week at BGSU on tap for the coming week, the Falcons will not play a midweek game. Bowling Green will be back in action for a three-game series at Kent State over May 4-6.
ADDITIONAL GAME NOTES
• Senior southpaw Kody Brown logged a scoreless seventh inning, marking the 91st appearance of his Falcon career. With one more appearance, Brown will surpass Nick Bruns (2010-13) and Neil Schmitz (2001-04) for the all-time program record.
• Tyler Anderson got the start on the mound for the Falcons. He allowed one earned run over 3.0 innings of work.
• David Stopp turned in 2.0 scoreless innings of relief, keeping BGSU's deficit at 9-6 over the final two innings.
• Derek Drewes and Neil Lambert each went 2-for-3 with one run scored and two RBI.
• Jeff Scott was the third Falcon to record multiple hits on the afternoon, as he went 2-for-5 with a run.
• Bowling Green's other hits were registered by Jake Wilson, Brad Croy, Cam Daugherty and Ty Suntken.
• By notching a hit and drawing two walks, Jake Wilson extended his on-base streak to 20-consecutive games.
