The meeting will mark the return for former Falcon Head Coach Chris Bergeron to the Slater Family Ice Arena since accepting the same position at his alma mater, Miami, this past April. Since the last meeting, the RedHawks hold a 4-9-3 record, claiming victories over Ferris State, Colgate, Minnesota Duluth and Omaha. Miami also tied Omaha in the same weekend when the Mavericks were ranked No. 18 by USCHO. Additionally the win over Duluth came when the Bulldogs were No. 6 in both the USCHO and USAToday/USAHockey polls.Â
The Series At A Glance
The second matchup between the Falcons and RedHawks marks the 121st meeting between the two teams. In the matchup earlier this season, the Falcons captured a 7-4 victory behind Cameron Wright's four goal performance. The game was the first between the two teams since the 2017-18 season with the series taking a year hiatus in 2018-19, the first season the two teams didn't play each other since the 2013-14 season, which was the year that the matchup switched to being non-conference and ended a streak of 15 years of the matchup, a streak that ran back to 1998-99.Â
Last Time Out
Bowling Green last took the ice on Dec. 13 and 14 against Lake Superior State, a series that ended in a split. The Falcons claimed their victory in the first game of the weekend on Friday, winning behind Eric Dop's third shutout outing of the season in a 2-0 final, the sixth of his career. As for Saturday, the Lakers and Falcons went to overtime with a 2-2 tie. LSSU netted the deciding goal in the overtime period to take a 3-2 win to close out the series. In each of the games the Orange and Brown capitalized on the power play, seeing Max Johnson score on Friday and Connor Ford on Saturday when holding the advantage. Friday's second goal was an empty-netter by Cameron Wright while Saturday's came from Alex Barber via short-handed goal.Â
Around the WCHA
Apart from Bowling Green's series, the WCHA had three other series going on Dec. 13 and 14. Two series saw overtime games on Friday, being Michigan Tech tying Clarkson and Ferris State tying Alabama Huntsville. Clarkson and Ferris State claimed wins on Saturday. As for the final series, Minnesota State topped Northern Michigan on Friday, 5-2, before the Wildcats upset the Mavericks on Saturday by a final score of 4-1.Â
Rauhauser Climbing All-Time Scorers List
With an assist during the last series against Lake Superior State, Alec Rauhauser continues a career long trek of moving up the all-time scorers list. After becoming the latest Falcon to surpass the 100 career point mark earlier this season, Rauhauser has now climbed to a tie for 58th all-time with 106 points, tying Bruce Newton (1975-79) and Sean Pronger (1990-94). As for true defenseman, Rauhauser is currently tenth in program history, trailing Brian McKee for ninth who totaled 119 points over 107 games from 1984-87.Â
