November 18, 2020 | Ice Hockey
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University hockey team returns to action this Saturday (Nov. 21) to take on Adrian for the second game of the home-and-home series against the Bulldogs. Puck drop is set for 7:05 p.m. at Arrington Ice Arena. Â

Falcons, Bulldogs To Complete Home-And-Home Series
For the second weekend in a row, the Bowling Green Falcons and Adrian Bulldogs will go head-to-head on the ice. The second leg of the home-and-home series was originally set for Dec. 5, but a scheduling change bumped the game up to Nov. 21, just over a week after the first meeting. Last week's contest saw the Falcons begin the 2020-21 season the way they finished the 2019-20 season, by capturing a win. Bowling Green will be looking to advance to 2-0 to start the season for what would be the second time over the last three seasons.Â
Prepping For Round Two With Adrian
Just eight days removed from the first meeting between Bowling Green and Adrian in program history, the two squads will go head-to-head once again. In the first game between the two teams the Falcons led the whole way, but a late surge by the Bulldogs cut the deficit. Adrian was able to net two scores in the third period against the Falcons, including one on the power play. Even so, Adrian was held to just 20 shots on goal in the game while the Falcons handed the Bulldogs their first loss of the 2020-21 season. Statistically, it was Connor May that led the way for Adrian, scoring their power play goal and his team-leading fourth score of the season.Â
The Game At A Glance
The Falcons and Bulldogs will square off for the second time in just over a week, giving both teams a more clear perspective on the 60 minutes action. Statistically, the Falcons are off to a better start across the board with the exception of assists, power play percentage and penalty kill percentage. The Bulldogs are averaging 8.3 assists per game while the Falcons are right behind them at 8.0 assists per game. As for power play percentage, the two teams are even with both registering a .167 success rate in the young season. As for the penalty kill, both teams have allowed just one power play goal this season, but with more games completed, Adrian is at .929 while Bowling Green is at .800, having played just one game.Â
Last Time Out
After an eight-month layoff from game action, the Falcons were able to knock the rust off and explode for six goals against Adrian on Nov. 13 in a 6-2 final. Chase Danol kicked off the scoring with a goal in the first period to grant the Orange and Brown an early lead. From there, Bowling Green added three more goals in the second and matched Adrian's two goals in the third to secure their first win of the 2020-21 campaign. With the win, the Falcons have now opened their season with a win for three consecutive years.
Johnson Reaches Career Point Milestone
With two goals last weekend, Max Johnson became the 74th player in program history to reach 100 career points. Johnson is the third player in the past two seasons to reach the mark, joining Brandon Kruse and Alec Rauhauser who both surpassed the century mark last season. With the achievement, this now marks the first time the Falcons have had a player reach 100 career points in back-to-back seasons since Jonathan Matsumoto and Derek Whitmore did so in the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons, respectively. With Johnson reaching the mark, Bowling Green is now the only team in the nation with two active 100 point scorers on their roster, being Johnson and Kruse. Entering the weekend there are just four active players in Division I college hockey with at least 100 career points and two of them suit up in the Orange and Brown.Â
Multiple-Point Efforts Shine For Falcons
In the first game of the season, four players for the Falcons were able to log a multiple-point performance. The group was led by Max Johnson's two goals while both Brandon Kruse and Connor Ford each logged a goal and an assist. Alex Barber joined the group as well with two assists in the game. Last year, Bowling Green had a total of 62 multiple-point games with Ford leading the way with 10 on the year.Â
Picking Up Where They Left Off
The Falcons were able to begin the 2020-21 season in a similar fashion to how they ended the 2019-20 season just eight months ago. For starters, Bowling Green was able to pick up a win, continuing an 11-game unbeaten streak and nine-game win streak dating back to last season. Additionally, the Orange and Brown were able to net a power play goal on Friday after leading the nation in power play scores during the 2019-20 season.Â
