Today, we highlight your No. 17 choice for the top student-athlete of the past 20 years, women's basketball player Liz Honegger!
Â
Â
During her four years at BGSU, the women's basketball program went an astounding 103-25 (.805). Honegger holds the school records for blocked shots in a game, season and career. She currently ranks seventh in scoring (1,522 points), fourth in rebounding (903), seventh in steals (202) and third in three-pointers made. She was twice named to the All-MAC Second-Team, was a two-time MAC All-Tournament Team selection and also earned Academic All-MAC distinction.
Â
Honegger's senior season saw the Falcons go a remarkable 31-4, the most wins in MAC women's basketball history, with the final two wins being over Oklahoma State and Vanderbilt in the NCAA Tournament. They were the first MAC women's team to ever make a Sweet Sixteen appearance in the tournament.
Â
She is the only player in BGSU history to make 40 three-point shots and block 40 shots in the same season, a remarkable feat considering she made 50 three-point shots and blocked 50 shots in two different seasons.
Â
Honegger also joined the track and field team after her freshman season on the hardwood, where she would become a 2004 MAC champion in discus.
Â
Liz Honegger is now entering her ninth season as the Director of Basketball Operations for the Indiana University Women's Basketball program.
